Altias & the Lieutenant

Altias & the Lieutenant

So the governor was actually working today. Well, considering all the other unusual activity that took place, this probably shouldn't come as a complete surprise, no matter how peculiar the Lieutenant found it. Of course, this wasn't the end to his problems at the moment. Knowing where the governor was didn't necessarily help the Lieutenant in informing the Governor of certain events. Afterall, without the presence of the lawyer the governor now had on retinue, it was highly improbably the Governor would deign to speak with the Order on any subject. Or at least, those were the irritated thoughts that tumbled through Kilborn's mind as he let individuals announce that he'd arrived and was seeking the governor. He was patient, while his name was mentioned back and forth. The lieutenant afterall, was vaguely curious as to whether the militia would come barging in to confine him, whether the governor would think he was under arrest and flee out the back, or some other combination. The thoughts brought about a bit of a sigh.

"Send him in Bran."

Kilborn was allowed entry into the governor's chamber without incident. There was a guard posted at the door, but there always was when the governor was accepting...professional visitors.

The chamber was closed to keep out the sweltering heat as best he could. Heavy velvet curtains covered the window, two oil lamps burned on his desk, one on either corner.

Altias looked up from the paperwork spread out on his desk, a nod to the lieutenant, a motion to enter.

"Lieutenant Kilborn. How can I help you today? Did the water drop go well?"

There seemed no malice in his voice, true curosity over the success of the water drop.

"I heard the church bells. Can I asume that means the people can pick up their water now?"

A hand, still holding a quill, motioned to one of two chairs sitting before the desk.

"Sit. You must be exhausted. Water?"

And without waiting for an answer, the governor is pouring two mugs from the pitcher on his desk. One slide across the desk to where Kilborn would likely settle.

Wrong, in all the right ways

The Lieutenant eyed the seat for a few moments with some hint of reluctance. He spent too often sitting at a desk, sorting through reports as things stood. Still, on this occasion, he had the pleasure of being on the visiting side of the desk, and eventually settled. The offer of water was of some surprise to the Lieutenant, though in this heat he was assuredly not one to object, and accepted it with a gracious word of thanks.

"The water drop was more successful than I had anticipated." The lieutenant admitted calmly. Simply because he didn't like politicians, didn't mean that they were completely devoid of humanity or intelligence. Bromn had possibly earned some points on this occasion.

"There are a few questions about distribution. If labourers are hired to distribute to the outlying farms who may require the water the most, how much should they be provided, and what wage for the labourers? The Order can see to the distribution, but it would take longer. We can not distribute water and patrol the province at once. Do you have any ideas?"

The Lieutenant concluded with a slight grimace, and one hand raising to his chest. The aging injury reminded him of one other little detail that should probably be arranged.

"The corpse of the monster outside the meeting house. What do you want done with that?"
