A Blight Descends...

Haar sat at home, reading over his old journals written in his native tongue and the esoteric court language of Eredware. He had posed as a simple farmer for the time being, but it seemed traces of his old life were beginning to catch up with him. He sighed, looking at drawing he had made in one journal at the beginning of the Plague that ravaged his homeland and eventually destroyed it. The maggots at the Pattersen Farm, eating his cow were the same as the ones that appeared in the livestock of his native land. He put his head down on the desk and grumbled in thought, cursing himself for coming to a land with that sort of curse likely following him. Perhaps all the odd goings on and this Cult were related.

He would have to act in time, but he would also wait to see if anything else came from it. Until then, he would push it out of his mind and simply let the rumor spread that the cow died of dehydration and let the townsfolk think that vermin were especially vigorous in this weather...

Elsewhere, darker plots were brewing. Jae Havara, the traitor Cder Sunae that sold his soul to become the Demon Lich already had begun to sow seeds of discontent in the Wood. Rumors were rumbling that perhaps Treadwell or some other mage had been the cause of this terrible drought and the oddities that had beset the wood, because of abuses of their power.

Soon, the being who would disguise himself as Jukast Berin, would try to win the hearts of the people of Myrken Wood and become their new governor, overthrowing the current one...

Jukast Berin was already hard at work trying to win the hearts of the people: This week's platform? The lemur problem. Yes, since it got hot it was less of an issue, but the drought only excaserbated the already damaged crops and products caused by the plucky prosimians.

"And this lemur problem is the general cause of people who own them as pets! Where I came from, rich nobles and politicians often kept the creatures as pets and they would escape and breed with the local populations!"

Of course, the peasants were grumbling already about the animal problem and their children begging for one or bringing them home. It had garnered complaints to the local council.

"...and one of the most prominent figures would be your Councilor Treadwell, who has at least TWO residents from what I saw at the visit to my residence. Well fed, these creatures can birth 2 or 3 kits at any one time! And be ready to go again within a few days.."

More grumbling occured. The lemur population boom was growing out of hand, and it had to be stopped. Perhaps Treadwell would have to prepare himself for an angry mob at his door.
