....and how are the chandlers faring ?

Ewen had always been a pragmatic yet quiet soul.He was a good man to glean advice from with simple matters of the day and sometimes when the mood struck him, even about matters of a deeper nature. Sometimes this simple man got downright philiosophical which confused and consternated his distant neighbors in the small hamlet and farms.

Mostly though he cared for his cract. His skill of melding wax into the most marvelous shapes and colours. His craft for whittling the most intricately detailed wax stamps was known fairly wide.

His opinion about the current problems between the farmers and townsfolk was never heard. That was a powderkeg and he had no wish to add a spark to it. He kept his family away from such things and was more thankful for the isolation of their humble abode in Oak hollow. He was hardly pleased having to send his young juvenile son, Kristof, to the tavern but it seems it was a well paid for risk. The young man had been paid handsomly for the peck of candles and more so was asked to come back the next month.

This gave the large, bearded bear of a man pause. They need the funds but he was beginning to feel pressure from his Brother who sided with the farmers. And the matter of the militia and those damned fires. He sighs and shakes his head as he mindlessly dips the tallows into the wax over and over mindlessly as his mind wanders onto these worries.

His wife fears he may be called to service soon, seeing he was a fit for a man of his age. Only the barest show of frost touched his brown curls. Ewen the Chandler a soldier. The thought made him snuff with a humorless laugh.

Pale eyes rise up to watch the nearly cloudless sky and the heat waves rippling up into the midday air. It is going to be a very lean season indeed.
