The WS&L..Open for business

Postby Jirai » Mon Mar 07, 2005 12:02 pm

As I figured. Something I overheard leads me to believe that she's either working with or for Kerrak. Just thought it might be a useful tidbit for you.

A prompt reply, as usual, would appear just as annonymously as always. This was really a fine way to do business, in her opinion. Plenty of money, and relatively few irritating face-to-face discussions with anyone.

Perhaps it is more then a simple working relationship?..If what i saw the other night is any indication, i may know a way or two to push some buttons..
On a side note...thank the Tailor for me...I believe his "gift" will come in very handy...

A smile...as she looks at what she wrote woundering if anything else need be added....then an after thought..

"Speaking of which....If you have any thoughts on how to procede. I'll be at the dagger this evening...seems they need someone to tend bar. and I'm Keeping an eye out for a pair of Orcs...One with only one arms...Seems he is missing his boots

And now finally she nods, folding and sealing the note...if she thought of anything else she could tell her "pen-pal" when they next saw eachother...

On her deak are two Items....a pair of orc sized boots...an orc arm, a touch ripe. and a rudy...the very ingreidents needed for any sort of trouble....

Poor orc, lost his arm, lost his boot, could it week get any worse?..

Her anger was still there, straight on through the night, into the morning, and now in the early afternoon...There were folks in this town. that seemed to think they were better then others....The normal folk, suddenly turning their noses up on the not so normal. The stoning of Sawyer was just the tip of the ice burg, she could feel it already. Everyone thought the wall would save this land from strife...No one ever stop to think about how it would change the folks already here..

Parchment grab...this note was written in haste...

There was an attack in town, seem some of the local town folk think the ugly and the odd don't belong inside the wall. Find out who was involved in the stoning of Sawyer, but don't act yet....WE will show them the error of their ways.....

The note was folded and sealed handed off to one of her couriers. though the moment of silence was interupted when the sounds of shouting came from the main room... raising from her seat she rushed in, to find Daphne-Kyle doing her best to stand between Mary one of the barmaids a happy young woman whose mother was of a race similar to were, though instead of feline or canine. their animal was of the feathered variety. Her father was human enough...and she grew up just a mile out of town. but now it seemed the feathers in her hair. and her hawkish shaped nose segregated her from the norm.

"Outta my way Cripple. Freaks are no longer welcome!..The wall will keep us safe from the inhuman!"

The ringleader bellowed, behind him stood two others younger...but with similar shapes and faces...his sons perhaps...

"You Dare attempt to pass Edicts in an Establishment under my protection?"

The Gypsy voice carried over everything, patrons who were trying not to pay attention...some trying not to be seen, less they be next all turned to see the woman, walking passed the bar. mini crossbows in each hand...The speaker fell silent, stopping his persual and allowing Daphne, to safly remove Mary from the situation..

"You have till the count of three to remove yourself from this hold, and never return again...."

Her words still, cold....could these be the ones who harmed Sawyer?...or is this line of thought spreading quicker then she thought?

"one.."

"You are no better then they are Gypsy...all the deals you've struck with the darkness...have you lied with the beast?..."

"Two..."

"There are three of us....and you only have two arrows...even if i fall..one of my sons will avenge me..."

"You fool!!"....Daphne's voice errupts from behind the Gypsy.."Look where the arrows are aimed...she is not planning on striking you."

Then he caught it...the look in her eyes...for she never had any intention of harming the father....for it would be far more worse for him to have to stand over his dead childern knowing he was the cause....

"Three.."

The word hung in the air...that errie silence that comes before death...were the world seems to pause...and inch forward at a snails pace....the arrows were released, slicing through the air....the man having a split second to decide, which son will live and which will die....turning he grabs one pulling him to the ground, the arrow cutting into the meat of his shoulder. His other son, left to fend for himself dives to the ground aswell...Though he is not as lucky as his father and brother. the arrow slices through his neck...blood is suddenly pooling....

Nobody moves...most because the Gypsy is still to close...Daphne takes a step..but a hand haults her...even she knows when not to push her Friend...the only sound is the man choking on his own blood...Till the father turns and sees his son....

"You will pay for this Gypsy...Straka will see to that!"

He shouted as he grabed a dirty rag from his pocket to try and hault the bleeding...the other son follows suit....

"Your son will live if you get him to the doctor in time..Your other son is untouched....such things will not continue to be, if Straka comes to my door..."

The threat is not to be taken light...the man knows this..knows that she could wipe out his entire family if it served her purpose..The two men pull the injured one to his feet. only then does the Gypsy move...close to the men...who were still, froozen in place...her hand lifts as she whispers to the injured son...

"Ask yourself...as you are mended...why when the choice was there...did he not choose you.."

A single finger lifts to trail along side a burn scar that cover part of the left side of the mans face...

"Get your son the help he needs....and tell all your friends...Your kind is no longer welcome here..."

With that she turned moving back over towards Daphne-Kyle, and Mary...the three departed quickly....the rest of the patrons slowly began to go back to their drinks, their dinner..

"You kind?.."

It was Daphne's words that broke the silence...but the Gypsy barly heard her she was looking at Mary...feathers had fallen and gathered at her feet...a reaction her kind has when they are afraid...the weapons disguarded, a hand resting on the girls face..

"With words like that..how are you any different from them?"

Daphne still trying to break through... to make her old friend see how this could go so very wrong...how it already had...

"They will see the error of their ways....I will show them.."

And then she left...returning to the back room...leaving the entire room to wounder, and Daphne to fear. She never knew Khalika back when she took on the Ghaul army. Back when she nearly wiped out ever single one of them.. But she has heard tales....Tales of a single minded madness that sent a land into the bloodiest war in it history....and how it nearly destroyed her friend.. She could not let that happen again....turning to the first server she could find..

"Leave now...find me the Councilor named Kerrak...Tell him its urgent I speak to him...Tell him lives may be at stake."

It didn't take her long to read the note and commit it to memory. Once she had done so, the parchment was fed to a fire as the others before it had been. Leaving the ashes, she moved into a darker room to think for a moment.

Oh, the dislike for those who were less than human was not surprising, not to -her.- She simply took care to remain unnoticed, knowing that reactions would likely be the same wherever she went, and she cared little. The opinions of others rarely concerned her, and she could defend herself if it became neccessary. No, what had surprised her was Khalika's vehement concern.

She would find out who was involved in Sawyer's stoning, sooner or later. She would also try to discover just what the relationship between the odd girl and Khalika was.

It was a normal enough day in Myrken, busy shops, busy people going about their busy lives...Till a whirl-wind of Auburn hair, and copper skin disrupted their tranquil moments...Storming through the streets many try to get out of the path of the Gypsy with little sucess. She left in her wake, up turned baskets and toppled shop keepers and customers alike...charging through the doors of the waystation..most cringed and fell away from her presence.. passing it off as one of the womans constantly changing "moods". Only her long time friend the stations propritor Daphne-Kyle took note of the troubled look in her eye. She wasn't so much angry as worried....she would follow her into the back room that was their office..

"Trouble?"

The word was carefully spoken....not sure what exactly was the cause...she got no responce as the Gypsy was rummaging through pappers looking for a blank piece of parchment and a writing tool...the note read simple.

"I'll be gone for a few days....If I don't come back...leave yourself..or prepare for battle. If I do...well then i'm a better dealer then even I thought was possible...and I might just start believing in a higher power.."

the note was folded and marked as all are that are sent to Jirai. and stuffed in a pocket inside her poncho. Finally she looked up to Daphne....a nod as she grabbed a few things...

"could be..."

A responce finally as she moves the desk...pulls back the carpet and open a small trapped door. one of the many that litter the room. This one though holds more sensitive items then mere bank notes and stolen treasures...the articles in this "safe" were a few final ties the Gypsy had to her old ways...To the days when she made deals with demons....grabbing a scroll and a velvet bag she returned everything to its place...a look up to Daphne and she saw a fightened expression looking back at her...

"I know...I know..I told you i would never go back....but something must be done...for the greater good...You know what to do if I don't return"

And then she was gone....rushing out the way she came. Leaving The small woman to stand alone in the room. It took her a moment to take in everything that had just happened, and then she was moving to the wall behind the desk. the opening there was not so secretive, as it held nothing of great value. Only some personal letters. It was a bundle of those letters which she pulled out...taking a seat, she sifted through the letters...they were updated as the Gypsy saw fit..different ones for different situations..all labeled or addressed...it was something of a morbid ritual, but it helped the woman get through the day knowing her affairs were always in order...the one with the name Daphne was taken from the pile and set aside....it wouldn't have to be sent...Others..the names vaguely familar....She also knew that if the Gypsy didn't return...or if pieces of her did..as sometime happens in these situations. She would have to go to Kerrak and warn him..

She just hopes it doesn't come to that...she hopes her friend knows what she's doing..

The dark man entered the Waystation and Livery quietly. 'Dark' came not from his complexion, and while it could derive from the man's black hair bundled neatly in a ponytail draping down his back, the best use for the word would be his intention.

Old, stained leather boots crushed stray cobblestones from the road outside against the floorboards as blue eyes examined the building without expression. A fur vest protected the fairly big man from the outdoor chill, and the shortened axe that swung a little too freely at his side protected him from other things. Scars covering his arms could allude to the use of the weapon.

But Dante was only violent to a certain race, and came only to show that violence. One could certainly feel pity to the WS&L employee he'd found to ask his question, as while his expression betrayed nothing, there was only simple and pure, undiluted hate in his words.

The gypsy's letter was read and thought over for a short moment. How like Khalika to be so cryptic. She had been in the process of composing another note for the woman, but it seemed that that could be put off for a time. That was well enough, since all she had at the moment were rumours, and this would give her a chance to verify them. Khalika's letter was left where the tailor would be sure to find it, and her own left unwritten - an unintended side effect that might, all unknowning, help her to avoid Dante, for a bit at least, for had she written the letter, she might have had the ill luck to be delivering it at the same time as the man. BUt luck was on her side, today. One might wonder how long that would last, though.

Mary barly looked at the man...before she was shuffling away..the tone of his voice reminder her too much of the incident with the man and his two sons a week or so past..She would pass the message on to Daphne and then depart to the kitchen till he was gone...

Daphne though was a bit stronger of mind...she looked at him as she hobbled over his way...her crutch fitted firmly under one arm..the club foot that was the meaning for the assitance tool. is hidden away under layers of skirts...

Looking up at the man, the smile flashed was genuine enough, she motioned towards a near by table..it was barly a step or two away, if he chose to remain standing that was fine by her...she though had to sit....

"So...Mary told me you were looking for a Drow?...I'm afraid in this place you have to be a bit more specific...are cliental is wide to say the least, Though if I can, i will help you..."

the crutch set aside...as she pulls out a hankie to pat her brow, her breathing a touch erratic. But that was par for the course..what with her aliments. Though even as she awaited the mans responce. She had some idea who he might be looking for...she'll help him of course. Up to a point. But she won't be turning over anybody to anyone....mental notes are made to send word to Jirai...Someone maybe looking for her...

"Sir Do you by chance have a name?...I like to know who i'm speaking with..."

It died away, as quickly as it had surfaced, that hate. Dante realized his lapse of emotional control was a mistake and had probably already put the staff on guard; especially if the rumors he heard were true - he wanted the staff to trust him enough to part with the information he needed, not protect the drow for her dear life - as they rightly should. Dante chose to stand, declining the seat with a hand gesture. Those deep blue eyes turned to the old woman and answered, politely:

"I am Dante. The drow - Jirai - and I have unfinished matters I would like closure to."

Old?...not truly so....though Salt and pepper was little by little streaking once dark mahogany locks. She was only dipping into her 42 year, so though she isn't as young as she once was...she wasn't old either....

A smile drifted across her face...as she listened....noting his name..a smooth of her skirt as she seems to be shifting through her memory to see if a face match to the name of Jirai....

"Well, though the name sounds somewhat familar...I believe it is just in passing conversations i have over heard here..I personally have not meet the Drow you speak of...Of course This is a new Establishment, and i am equally new to the territory..So i have yet to run into all the townships populace."

Her word rang much truth, for she was indeed very new to town, not even 6 months have past. And she doesn't know many folks...so it wasn't that she was lying..she was just choosing which truthes to tell. Not that it would be outwardly noticeable...What with all the time she has spent lying about all the stuff she knows about the Gypsy...She's built up one of the best poker face around, not too flashy, not overly agreeable...just the right amount of fact.

"Perhaps if the one you seek has been around these parts for sometime. she may know my old Friend. the Gypsy Khalika Quiller, She is at present away on business....But i've been told she will return in a day or two...Also Perhaps inquiring at the Tavern on the other side of town...The Broken Dagger i believe its called... I know some of the more permenant residants tend to gather there..."

She was standing now..leaning heavily on the table as she situated the crutch back under her arm...a nod to Dante...

"If that is all...I must be getting back to work...If i sit the day away..nothing will get down.."

Alight chuckle...and another nod, and she was hobbling back to the bar..

Head in the sand

Postby Khalika » Fri May 13, 2005 9:58 am

Some creatures hid when trouble came, some where better at it then others.. Khalika once told Daphne of a long necked bird that would burry its head in the sand, as to not see the danger around it..

This was the train of thought Daphne carried in recent weeks...just hide behind mountains of paper work, locked in the back room of the waystation. ignoring the cries and fear that echoed in the streets... so far they have not breeched the sanctuary of the Waystation....Perhaps that is because those who lingering within are of a more odd flavor...since those few trickles of racial disturbances months back..It has become a resting place for the deformed and unnatural nature...they found solitude amoungst others who were similuar. and so far it seemed only the regular towns folk have fallen prey to illness and more frightening madness...

but of a more personally nature...her friend..and confidant the Gypsy Khalika Quiller had falling finally to a foe,and a injury she has yet to recover from...It scared the middle-age woman to think of her friend damaged...unable to walk... to live her life as she was born to..wild and free.... it frightened her more when she recieved a Cryptic message delivered to her person by a vertex, the race of Lizard folk who raised the Gypsy since her early years.. It was a strange incounter for in all the many years that the two woman held this friendship..she had only spied the creatures a handful of times..and not once had she come face to face with one...

things must be desperate for the Gypsy to be using them so openly...For she has gone to great length to keep the race a secret from society as a whole. but there it lays, a scribbled not upon her desk...asking for her to accompany G'val to a place some distance away....a place she only heard her friend speak of but once..a place that held her past....and the thing she wanted...

the woman shoke her head...if she was to delivery the Graphite ruby to a man...no half-elf named Tyralor McDougal she was going to know the reasons why....for it was no mere trinket...and its exsistance and discover nearly ruined her friends..nearly stole her sanity....

no..she would not blindly follow this request as she has many other... she would no longer keep this secret....She would speak first to this McDougal, for she will not have him stearing her friend in this fragile state...not for any treasure...
