A sight to see.

A sight to see.

Three thousand men in all. Three thousand men upon the backs of an equal number of horses. Three thousand spears rested upon shoulders at precise angles, their burnished tips flashing in the sun. Leather and chain armour girded them, dyed a deep crimson hue. Many wore swords at the hip, number with bows strung across the chest, even others with axes or hammers amidst the collection of weaponry. Horses moved in even step with one another, as officers with bright gold trim upon scarlet uniforms called out candence.

The procession of soldiers would slowly wind their way around the town of Myrken, part a show of force and part a test ot see if they could still operate as a cohesive force. Which they did with enough ease, and a little yelling from sergeants who pushed them back into lines. The entire thing would be watched, from one location, by the Duke and his Force Commander, Wilhelm Dross. Both watched hawkishly, even as the two men talked over things in lowered voices.

"So, are you going to do this thing on the morrow, Burel?" The General was one of the few who ever got away with calling him that. As well, though, that was what he was there for. To speak plainly to his Duke, when others would not.

Burel let the question lie for a moment, watching intently as the line of soldiers passed by. Then, finally, a glance was cast towards Dross. "Of course I do, General. At least if I can get away from things like I will need to. What do you think? Should I invite Lenore along with, she will... need to have such experience if anything ever happens to me." It was a worry he had, of course, especially with the brewing conflict ahead.

"Sir. You will do whatever it is you think is right, of course. And I think our lovely Duchess would benefit, of course, but this meeting? I would think not, Sir. It may get... violent, or more heated than would be warranted." He paused a moment, nodding his head to a Captain that passed by their position in the line... "I presume you will want the usual detachment of guards?"

"Of course, Wilhelm. Of course. Make sure, though, that they dress in the formal attire of my guard, yes? If I am going to show up, I might as well make it a grand apperance." Burel smiled at the Commander, then fell silent as the rest of the men continued to file past him...

One should always be drunk. That's all that matters... But with what? With wine, with poetry, or with virtue, as you chose. But get drunk. - Charles Baudelaire
