The Gilded Lily Re-opens

The Gilded Lily Re-opens

Postby Dulcie » Sat Mar 28, 2009 4:58 am

The streets, inns and taverns have been flooded with fliers lately, passed out by children paid to deliver the message, or by quiet dark skinned foreigners who never seem to speak when delivering the papers.

The writing on the fliers has delicate, beautiful handwriting that states in large letters:

"Come one, Come all
To see the great

BERDINI

performing his acts of illusion.
What you see will truly mystify and amaze!"

At the bottom of the flier would be a series of dates and times, announcing when the shows were to occur.

OOC Note:

This is part of a plot meant to include any and all who wish to join in. Your character can be affected directly, or indirectly by their involvement in this plot. It should be alot of fun, and it's quite flexible with how your character can be involved/effected. I want to include as many people as possible. I'll be running multiple "shows" in #bd_myrkentown whenever I get a few hours to devote. What happens at these shows has the potential to effect your character in other settings. No one's character will get "stuck" somewhere for days at a time :)

First event is today, March 28 at 1 pm. Keep an eye out for further dates to follow. I'll try to post them here as well as in the channel topic.

"Acts of mystery, mmph mmph, and illusion and all that rot, hmmmm?" says a certain shrill, squeaky voice as a certain fleshy hand closes around one of the offered flyers and pulls it to a certain pair of beady eyes squinting through glasses.

"Mmmmmm. Well, what else have I to do, hmm hmm, but to spend a little time taking a visit to see this? What else other than finishing tax records, hmm hmm, for the month, seeing Bill at the church as he's demanding the usual monthly checks he's been asking of folks the last year he's been here, talking to Graham about a way to better see food out to the poorer folks. . . . And all the while finding a little time to work some more on my toys!"

Treadwell thus gives a weary huff at this.

"And that's all without meaning to forget eating and getting in a nap this afternoon, mmph mmph! Now, when's the next date, hmm hmm, for this would-be illusion maker?"

Those beady eyes squint back at the page in his hand as Treadwell turns to toddle off to the door of his toy shop, still open for business, and only a few feet away from where he stands.

The Illusionist (To be run primarily on the forum from here on out)

Postby Berdini » Wed Apr 22, 2009 1:10 pm

***OOC Note***
This plot is going to be run almost primarily on the forums at least in regard to the shows. Character involvement and some other events are going to take place randomly whenever I get time here and there in the dagger. Figured that would work out better time wise for people. I'll keep you updated on any actual events regarding specific times
*********************************************************'

It's the week's end and the sun has just recently set over the town and the lanterns had been lit in the streets. People from all walks of life are being ushered towards the Gilded Lily. This was becoming a weekly habit, every week a new crowd, every week there was a new show. Fliers had made their way to all the major points of interest in Myrken advertising the show and on this particular evening there was a number of the street urchins running about spreading the word that the show was soon to begin.

Mixed amongst the crowd it would be easy to pick out a number of dark skinned foreigners. They seemed to have tried their best to blend in with the local clothing customs, but they speak primarily in a languge which is most certainly not native to Myrken. As the time grows nearer to the beginning of the show however those foreigners would disappear into the theatre, leaving only a small collection of locals collecting coins from people at the door before they'd be allowed to make their way inside. It would seem however that none were being turned away, and special exceptions were made for the poor, allowing a free entrance.

Into the theatre the crowds would move. Myrkeners and travellers alike, none seemed to want to miss the show. There had been a few weeks of this entertainment now and each person who had come to see the performance had recommended it to friends or family and thus every week the crowd had gotten larger and larger. Tonight's crowd was particularily large, packed into the theatre shoulder to shoulder the people move. Once through the doors the sight of the Gilded Lily is utterly breath taking.

True to it's word the Lily is completely covered with golden gilding, making every surface seem to shine brilliantly, illuminating the theatre from just small amounts of light that come from the wall sconces. It was a beauty to behold filled with the rich colors of gold and red velvet. Every seat pristine and comfortable the crowd is urged in to take their seats, leaving the theatre quite full with a few people even still standing at the back, unable to find somewhere open to take their seats.

At the front of the theatre is simply a stage with a few simple props at the front, a little table, and a longer looking cabinet that was painted with the image of a woman from the outside. Behind those two items the curtains are drawn and the theatre is abuzz with the excitement of what is to come.

**OOC**
Okay so i'm trying my little heart out to get something fun for everyone to get involved in. Please consider this thread open, feel free to post your characters into the theatre, I promise I'll get you involved. No commitment in real time is required what so ever.

It was a rare event that would get the, so called, Blood-Thirsty Crimson Duke out and away from his various duties. Yet, here, was one such event. He had, of course, heard of the opening of this place and the entertainment that had come from it. He had been fond of theater, had even been the patron for a few troupes that performed within his home province. And so, he felt the urge to come here himself and observe that which had gotten so many people's tongues a'waggin.

He came as quietly as he could, which meant only a pair of guards to ward his precious backside. Some things were just not worth arguing after, to tell the truth. Even if he could have stolen one of those sight-bending cloaks the Companions often used. It was plain and simple. Burel wanted to be seen attending. And doing so with as little trepidation as possible. He had no fear of retribution, did he?

And so, here he was, adding his press to the weight of the crowd. He would be content, however, to remain at the rear with the others who had to stand, however.

One should always be drunk. That's all that matters... But with what? With wine, with poetry, or with virtue, as you chose. But get drunk. - Charles Baudelaire

Treadwell will certainly find his way into the group, wearing a simple black suit and top hat (which actually fit, for once) and huffily, breathily bemoaning the discomfort of these darn seats that prove a bit too small for his girth. Being a former actor some four decades ago, he certainly has an interest in seeing just what is going to happen in this wondrously decorated theatre. . . .

And knowing him, he's likely to try to tell the actors how to do their jobs better after the performances are over.

Jacqueline felt uncomfortable, as if she stood out and not in a good way. Never did she look more like her mother than when she went out in feminine attire, and she hated being reminded of THAT woman. Still she carried herself with grace, and her discomfort would show to very few. Golden tresssees formed and intricate coronet of braids about her crown, only a few wisps allowed to grace the skin of her slender neck. Indigo toned gown clinging to her form, draping curves in soft cotton. Neckline was modest skiting across her chest without revealing undraped swell of breast, each sleeve ending in a neat point just over her wrists. Skirts fell from her waist, into light folds that ended with a hankerchief style hem, unusual but somehow suiting the wearer. Silver and gold twisted chain glistened around her throat, holding a single gem in a sunburst setting, a beautiful sparkling Amethyst, that nestled right between her breasts. Through those already gathered she would move, head held high her gaze searching for someone imparticular, not that she would ever admitted she was anxious to see him.

It was his boots that could be heard first from behind the curtain before the red velvet was swept aside and the Illusionist appeared on the stage before the crowd gathered in the theatre. He watched a moment, as a small sly smile curled about his lips before he reached an arm upwards in welcome before lowering it into a sweeping bow, catching his top hat up in the same motion.

There was a thunderous applause from the front few rows, the few that were set aside as free seats for the poor of Myrken who couldn't afford the fee required to get in the door. Apparently they had seen the show before.

"Good evening Myrken!" The man called out to the crowd, his eyes twinkling a little as he watches the many faces fixated on the show.

"Tonight, you shall see and perhaps if you are lucky, participate in the amazing, outstanding and perhaps one might even call mystical acts of illusion. I assure you that nothing you see tonight is the result of actual magic. Instead all performances are mere tricks, meant to fool the mind and confound the senses."

As the man continued on with his speech, delighting the masses, a young woman would appear on the side of the stage. She was clearly not from this area, her skin a rich dark chocolate color, though her features were quite obviously human. Her hair twisted in a number of dreadlocks, but tied up for the occassion, drew far more attention to her gown. The dress was a spectacle itself, quite short and cut low enough that watching her would have been an interest all in itself. The gown a rich gold color was bright enough to easily draw anyone's attention aside. In her hands she carried an empty cage which she set down upon the little table standing in the middle of the stage.

"Now then, for my first act I shall find the resident of this cage. Perhaps there is someone in the audience who has seen my little bird?"

He raised his hand to his eyes, scanning out over the crowd, looking at each person individually, as if trying to spot the person in the crowd who had indeed captured his pet.
