Positions Available at Darkenhold

This is the position conceived of someone who's stood behind Guillaume on far too many occassions not to notice the best posture to assume while listening to complaints and proposals -- if there actually is a best way to sit, and it is not just a notion of Quincy's fantastic imagination. She is a ridiculously rapt being, who does not even laugh at the very serious threat posed against the glass knight chesspiece on the desk.

"That's very generous o' you, Defender Krynn," she nods her head on the matter of lesser beings; the tips of her fingers ponderously touch together, and only when he is finished does she speak.

"Now I am goin' to tell you somethin' in confidence," she gravely begins. "I believe that you can be trusted."

She looks up at the star-shaped dome of glass that is the library's beautiful ceiling; Syl Duquesne did quite a job.

"Long 'ave we been aware of the Muffin Menace, an' long 'ave we struggled. No one speaks of it.. because we know 'ow devious they are. Their spies are countless," Quincy takes a deep breath to make up for all of the hot air that she just released. "We fight many enemies, but the Muffins 'ave by far eluded us the most..."

"We 'ave great need of your skills an' expertise, Krynn, an' I would be glad to meet your terms if you will 'elp us defeat them."

There would be a shake of his head in response to the offer of breakfast; it would not do to meet a potential employer smelling like food, or wearing it. He'd wait to eat, though he wasn't all that hungry as it was.

"Ah'm conten' jus'ta sit'n wai'." he'd slur in his way. The words were fast enough that, while clipped, were still understandable. Only because they were spoken quickly enough.

Kaelum would move across the room then, unless the girl bade him a specific chair, the gloves eased off and dropped on the chair next to the one he'd drop himself into. He sank low, feet crossing at the ankles, and he'd ease the brim of his hat down enough to conceal his face, for all the world looking as if he was preparing to nap then and there.

Was he? Simple observation alone wouldn't reveal the truth; only a careful inspection - or talking to him - would give the answer.

"Very well."

Kaelum is given the run of the room; she'll not direct him to any special chair, and he is free to make himself at home. To Siris, he seems to take this liberty in stride. The shadow of his lowered hat prevents inspection of the eyes. The crackling warmth of the nearby hearth fills the room with pleasant firelight.

The ward adjusts her spectacles and clears her throat.

"Are you originally from Myrken Wood, Mister O'Reilly?" She speaks quietly enough that -- were he so swiftly asleep -- she'll not have him wake at the sound of her voice.

Krynn
_____

Krynn looks for a moment, as Quincy begins to speak, about to break into a very serious rant to explain just how real the Muffin Menace is. Only rarely did anyone ever seem to take him seriously! Even then he had his doubts that they actually believed him. However, there is no sudden speech from the little guy. Only a moment of a dropped jaw and wide golden eyes, this important person that did not look all that important appeared to know of the Muffin Menace!

He was now the rapt listener as Quincy spoke. It looked almost as if he was straining to listen extra carefully, a look of concentration pasted upon his little face. If he tried listening any harder he might just fall over twitching!

When Quincy finishes speaking, Krynn does nearly fall over sideways but manages to keep on his feet with a slight stagger, "Finally! Someone who truly understands the threat of the Muffin Menace! Krynn has tried to warn many but they look at Krynn like Krynn is a silly fool!" words running together in an excited voice as he waves his tiny arms in the air.

Now there's a toothy grin from the little pixie as he suddenly strikes a heroic pose, flexing one tiny arm to show off his, in his opinion, bulging muscles, "Krynn will gladly keep Darkenhold safe from the Muffins! No one will have to fear for their lives while Krynn is here!" a serious look on his face as he speaks these serious words of his promise, "Krynn will slaughter any Muffin that dares slink into Darkenhold!" one hand clenching into a tight fist with those last words, the silver flecks dancing exictedly in his golden eyes.
Gods of War, I call you. My sword is by my side.
I seek a life of honor, free from all false pride.
I will crack the whip with a bold, mighty hail.
Cover me with death if I should ever fail.

There was no motion after her words for the longest moment, the silence that arose from him likely further the appearance of sleep. It wouldn't be until she took her first step away that he'd choose to answer.

"Ah'm no' from aroun' 'ere, no. Ah'm jus' a fahrm boy from tha south. So ya don' need'a be callin' meh Mistah or anahthin' fahncy like tha'. Kaelum's good enough."

Arms would be folded across his chest and he would continue to give the appearance of sleep.

"Aye," Quincy smiles. "I knew that we could count on a brave 'ero like you. Now .. "

The girl settles back in her chair, tips of her fingers placed together.

"Don't be surprised when people pretend they don't know wha' you're talkin' about. There are some things.. that we jus' don't talk about here."

She stamps a letter with a great seal that leaves behind a stain of elaborate, red gargoyle like a splash of blood across the page, and then she rolls it up and ties a slender, golden band around it.

"This is an importan' message in regards to our ongoing war agains' the Muffins," she holds the delicate roll in her grasp and stares at Krynn. "Can I count on you t' see it reach its destination? It's a real dangerous path..."

Krynn
-----

Krynn nods in a manner most grim, "Krynn will try to remember this," meaning the fact that he should not be so surprised when people 'pretend' to not know what the Muffin Menace is.

He will tilt his tiny head to one side, watching with great interest as Quincy stamps the letter and rolls it up. Golden eyes widen a little as he is told just what the letter is about.

A grim smile curls the corners of Krynn's mouth as he responds, "Of course you can depend on Krynn to get this to where it needs to go! Krynn will overcome and destroy any danger that dares get in Krynn's way! Krynn is invincible!" his voice most serious as he flexes his arm once more, "Just tell Krynn where to take it and all will be well!"

Hours of silence passed, or at least seemed to as he lounged in the chair feigning sleep. Eventually, boredom settled in, and while he was accustomed to hours of doing nothing while performing the duties of a scout, it was quite different in this situation.

At long last he'd rise, straightening his hat and offering a slight bow to Farsiris.

"Ah thankya fer yer tahme, but Ah think Ah might've mahde'a mistake comin' 'ere."

"You 'ave yerself ah right nice dahy." A wink and a grin would be offered with the slight tip of his hat, and he'd show himself out; out of the room, out of Darkenhold.

The wide-brimmed hat dipped against the wrought-iron gate as crimson eyes ran slowly over the edifice southwest of town. A bandaged right hand sought to push the gate open, in order to approach the door. In his left, gloved, hand was a crumpled piece of parchment that likely was an advertisement for one of the jobs available at Darkenhold.

He was likely larger than any guard that patrolled the premises, or stood at his duty near the doorway, so his approach, as meek as it was, perhaps caused a bit of apprehension, though he was unarmed.

"I'd like to talk to Quincy", the sepulchral voice uttered as his blood red gaze shifted around, focusing on the body language of any individual who approached or he felt was too close, "About the position of groundskeeper."
