She had directions - written ones that she could not read and the more useful verbal directions Cinnabar himself had given her the other evening. Keeping those in mind, the young girl found her way with ease to where she had been directed.
Brown hair that faded to white at the edges was bound back in a single braid, none falling forward to hide the parallel scars that marked one side of the child's face. A scarf was knotted 'round her neck, atop a sturdy linen shirt which was itself belted over loose leather trousers. Fingerless gloves for her hands, one of which was resting on the hilt of a sword strapped to her waist.
She eyed the building for a moment with a rather sullen expression - not at all unusual for this girl - before moving forward to make her presence known as well as her request to see the Governor.

Name taken by the sergeant at the front desk, and there's something of a wait before one of the Yard's messenger-boys - barely younger than the girl herself - arrives to let her know that the Gov'nor'll see her now.
Along corridors, up stairs, finally ending up outside the Governor's office door; the runner offers a brief grin before he knocks on the door, and a voice from the other side calls for the visitor to come in.
Inside, Cinnabar presents an altogether more tidy figure than the previous night sits behind a desk littered with papers, documents and reports; his pen scratches the last few words onto some sheet of orders or such before he looks up.
"Ah, good morning. Please, take a seat." An amiable smile at that, paper set aside, and he laces his fingers in front of him as he gets a better look at the girl, hair and sword and scars and all.
"Now, how can I help?"

She followed along easily enough, quiet as usual as she steps into the office. Several moments passed as she observed the man in silence. Only once she was satisfied with her observation - whatever that meant - did she step forward, sitting lightly on the edge of the chair.
"I do not think that you can help me. Kyra said I was to help you, rather." A bit of a twist to her voice when she spoke the sorceress' name - as though it pained her to say it.
"I will not heal, as a rule." Last night had been an exception. "I can enchant weapons and armor." That was something the blind sorceress had mentioned. "I can fight." That might be a laughable claim, coming from so young a girl - even if she did carry a sword around.

"In which case, I owe you further thanks for making an exception to aid me." Sincere in tone, and rightly so; were it not for her intervention he'd've had to endure an evening at the rememdium, and stitches and bandages for days yet. A nod at the brief summary of her skills,
"We have an enchanter - two, in fact. Kyra you've already met, obviously, and she has offered her aid where it is needed on a case-by-case basis; Elspeth von Drakken serves in a more official capacity, and is responsible for overseeing various government projects involving artificing and enchanting. I would suggest that you seek out Elspeth to discuss any services you might be able to offer with regard to enchantments, as her knowledge of the subject is far superior to my own." A light shrug and a smile, willingly confessing his own lack of expertise in the matter. As for the other thing, though, that prompts a lofting of brows, perhaps a closer look at the girl.
"You can fight. Hm. May I inquire as to how long you have been studying swordplay?" Well, with skilled tuition and an early enough start there's nothing to say that the girl might not be a capable fencer, for all that her age plays against her in terms of strength and reach.
Thu Jan 03, 2008 11:21 am
"I met Elspeth. I did not know that was what she does." Though it made sense, once she thought about it.
"I don't need a sword." She could use one, of course, since she carried one. One would think, anyway. "The weapon assists the magic in some circumstances. I'm actually better with a spear than a sword, anyway." The child was downright talkative, though Cinnabar did not know her well enough to judge. But that hadn't quite answered his question, yet. She continued after a moment. "Where I am from, if you do not fight, you die. Quickly." Hard tones, conveyed by such a very young voice. "I'm sure Kyra can enlighten you further." She'd rather not talk about it.

"Well, as I say, consulting with Elspeth on such matters would be for the best." Preferable to try and get the magic-workers aiding the government to act in concert, cooperating rather than competing.
"And... hm. You are from the same place as Kyra? Or similar? Perhaps you might give me a better explanation of how you fight, then, if a sword is unnecessary." Now this is intriguing. A battle-mage? And so young? Curious, very much so.
Sat Jan 05, 2008 3:57 am
"No." Came the swift answer. "Not from the same place. Not at all."
That assured, the girl leaned back in her chair slightly, fingers lacing together. She regarded Cinnabar with a furrowed brow, eyes narrowed with confusion. What was there to explain? "I use the magic to fight, of course..." She has never had to explain this before, that might be obvious.
"What's a governor, anyway?"
Sat Jan 05, 2008 9:09 am
"Ah. Of course." His wry smile might hint that it's perhaps not quite as obvious as she seems to assume. "Is this a matter of flinging lightning from your fingertips? Or turning a man to bones and dust in an instant? Or calling flames from the depths of the earth to consume your foe? Some sort of description of what's involved would be useful, miss." Her question, though, has him tilting his head curiously.
"One who governs. Of course." A slight quirk of a grin at that. "I'm responsible for arranging things such that as many people as possible in Myrken Wood can live safely, without undue threat of harm befalling them or their kin. I have a certain degree of authority which I can bring to bear in order to facilitate this."
Sat Jan 05, 2008 9:25 am
"The possibilities are endless, really. Of course, the less likely the possibility, the more difficult it is to produce. For example," She touched the hilt of her sword. "A blade might be enchanted with the possibility that the wielder is stronger than they actually are. Something like that is far easier to produce than, say, turning myself into a tiger. Calling flames would be easier than simply trying to disintegrate someone."
A slight nod of her head for his explanation. "We do not use that word. But that makes sense." Unlike those "taxes" that Kyra had tried to explain.
Thu Jan 10, 2008 2:46 am
"Ah. That's very flexible, certainly. Well, in that case... Hm." A slightly rueful grin, there, and a light shrug. "The difficulty posed by such a wealth of possibilities is choosing which to pursue. Since Kyra is currently in the process of arranging some enhanced equipment for an upcoming project, might you be able to assist her in that? Strengthening swords would be useful, certainly." Some concern over jurisdiction, though... hm.
"As I say, best to consult with Elspeth and Kyra; they're both working hard for the benefit of Myrken Wood, and will have a much better idea of how far along they are with their projects, and what assistance might be needed. I have an overview, but they're more familiar with the details." Well, that seems the most sensible path for now.
"And if there comes a need for your more martial skills, I will certainly call upon your abilities. That you have offered your assistance at all is greatly appreciated - it's a kind gesture indeed, especially from one so new to our land."

"If I didn't come, Kyra would probably drop another tree on my head." Was that a joke? It did not sound like one, but Kyra did not seem like the kind of person to be running around dropping trees on young girl's heads. "And she told me I had to go talk to Elspeth anyway, so I might as well go do that now." She actually offered him a bow, a dip at the waist with right fist touching her heart briefly. That was apparently all of a farewell that he would get, as the girl turned to the door - but it was more than most got.

And for his part, the Governor stands to bid farewell to the girl, fingers touched to his brow in light salute.
"My thanks again. Mind how you go."
