Knightly Deeds

Not more than an evening slipped by after having received the letter from Sir Malaroth before the mercenary woman arrived with the estranged horse in tow; the animal freshly groomed, bathed and happily chopping on a carrot. In the sunlight, it gleamed and kicked its head upward in a show of play and contentment.

Soon, Alessandra Demarest reached the stables and chapter house of the Shepherd Knights of the Silver Staff, bridle handed to one of the young stable boys.

"Please make sure that Sir Malaroth Deucalios of Zachea receives this letter and this fine animal." With one of her winning and brilliant smiles, the mercenary woman tipped a gold coin to the boy; a fellow who grinned wide.

Within a few days hence, three different refugee families from Derry whispered tales of a lady with brown hair, brilliant brown eyes and a heart-melting smile that helped them with their woes and travels to Myrken Wood. The name of 'Alessandra Demarest' was common among the families.

And no doubt, the words and tales of the heart-broken refugees from Derry, and of the common goddess who helped them, would reach the ears of Sir Malaroth Deucalios of Zachea.

The vision of a well-tailored boy arrived at the chapter house of the Shepherd Knights of the Silver Staff to hand-deliver a letter to Sir Malaroth Deucalios of Zachea. Once done so, he'd be well on his way with surprising maturity.

The letter was made of soft cream parchment, sealed and written in the careful scripture of a well-matured individual. The words, fluid and precise, read:

To Sir Malaroth Deucalios of Zachea, Grand Master of the Shepherd Knights:

I am writing to glorify the actions of a certain Miss Alessandra Demarest on the eve of October 3rd, Anno Regalis 207 at the Derry refugee camps just outside the keep.

It is unfortunate that I was not privy to the arguments among the refugees before Miss Demarest stepped in. Now, I am aware that the individuals involved were arguing over the last bits of food rations available to us. It was Miss Demarest who calmed the ruffled feathers of the near-starving peasants, and she who shared even some of her own food--as little as she had to offer. After which, she spent most of the evening with us, helping where needed and telling stories of her life over the glow of a campfire. For a while, the refugees had forgotten about their lost home and felt truly at ease in the light of her smile and good will.

It is my hope that she visits us again soon, and shed cheer to the despaired.

Also, please have more rations delivered to us. We are quickly running out.

In kind,

Sir Roriin Felwater of Daweia
Humble Servant of the Shattered Rose
