Tied with a crimson ribbon on the knob of the Meeting House door.. a letter addressed to the Councilman Coriolanus Helstone and sealed with the mark of the Requiem Curae. The sprawlings were elegant, educated and neat--maticulously written in perfection and all for the sake of proper, respectful etiquette. The letter read as follows:
To sir Coriolanus Helstone,
Well done, my dear sir. Well done, indeed. Your speech was eloquent and powerful. I have not heard such words spoken with so much bravery and intelligence for many, many years. I congratulate you for the effort.
It is a boastful claim--this 'allying against the drow' business you so surely speak of. You and your people, and perhaps all of Myrken Wood, need strong allies. And the Requiem Curae offers such an alliance. Of course, there will be conditions and agreements for both sides; this, I do not doubt.
I need not explain what creatures the Requiem Curae harbors and calls its beloved members, my dear sir. Surely, with our differences--especially on what we consider food--we can come to an agreement and render an alliance that is beneficial to both sides. This, I hope.
I always wondered what the blood of many hundred years tasted like, saturated in deceit and nurtured in a sunless world. Believe me when I say, dear Coriolanus Helstone, that blood is like wine; the older the vessel, the sweeter what is inside it becomes.
I await your reply.
