Ill-gotten goods

Outweighed as a longship might have been by one of those ungainly pigs that they built elsewhere, sailing cogs or coastal galleys, it was infinitely more seaworthy. Sturdy enough to sail the open water (and speedily) and with a shallow enough draught to navigate rivers, the ship was functional above all else. This one sailed down the Sagpa without being molested because the men of the far North were raiders as much as traders; they tended to raid the soft targets and trade their loot elsewhere. Here was one such 'elsewhere.'

They pulled the ship onto the shores of the lake in the darkest hours with some heaving, grunting and good natured swearing on the part of the small crew, which was mostly grizzled older men and a few green youths; there was not much in the way of saga material among this run down lot. But that was probably reassuring. They were traders rather than raiders, unloading their wares for the market.

A spare sail made for a fine tent in this sort of situation; Myrken was rumored to be as cursed as the hells were hot, and the superstitious Northerners were hardly going to risk it; the first sign of an accursed deed and they'd probably shove that ship off the shore and be on their way. A little business was being done this day, but most of it was poor at best. The average Myrkener seemed to be uninterested in the luxury sort of goods these men had for sale. You couldn't eat gold.

Still, they had quite the little collection of goods, no doubt ripped from the hands of previous owners, that they weren't entirely sure on the value of. Quite possibly, something very valuable could be bought on the cheap.
