Letters Sent Far and Wide

Letters Sent Far and Wide

Postby Glenn » Mon Jan 28, 2008 12:06 pm

It was a very personal sort of war for the young but determined government employee. It was the sort that he could not hope to lose. Today proved that. There was no time to waste, no time to plan. He had to act upon every idea he could come up with, go to anyone who might be able to help.

Thankfully, the first choice was easy enough.

A letter would be left at the Broken Dagger for a fairly recent arrival there. Hopefully the recipient could read it. If not, instructions were left to read it to him.

Valgar,

I have great need for you to teach me the ways of dreams and if you know at all about it, the ins and outs of my own mind. I understand the dangers but need to move forward with this. We can discuss payment and other matters soon, I hope.

Thank you,

Glenn Burnie

It was a similar problem for his next letter. He did not THINK that Kyra had some magical way of reading letters. She might. It must have been hard to keep up on her craft otherwise. Still, it was probably best to keep this vague on the idea someone might have to read it to her.

Kyra,

I cannot claim to have any accurate understanding of the breadth of your powers and your training background. Still, you are certainly someone who does understand a great deal about the preternatural. I would appreciate talking to you about the recent dreams we have been plagued with at your earliest convenience as well as a more personal matter in which I hope you can assist me.

With my gratitude,

Glenn

The letters would keep coming now that he had made it back to town. He had begun to use up all of his personal contacts. That was the danger when one did not choose to associate with many magic users. But he knew of others, and he was not afraid to go outside of his usual circle on this matter. The question was of just how far he would go.

There was no particular harm in going this far. In this case he had seen the woman, yes, but did not know her. Malaroth trusted her. That counted for something to Glenn, whether he would believe it or not. The messengers would find her. They were good at that.

Miss Valaeli,

My name is Glenn Burnie and I am the official Surveyor of Myrken Wood, though I write this missive to you in an unofficial capacity, merely as a concerned citizen. I imagine you may be aware of the unnatural dreams suffered recently by some of the members of your knightly order and others in Town. As you are said to have assuredly greater expertise in supernatural matters than I, a meeting between us would be useful. At the very least, I have some personal questions about your current role as an instructor of magic. I can be reached through the government offices or at the Broken Dagger, which I often frequent.

Glenn Burnie
Surveyor of Myrken Wood

Though he used his title, the letter was not signed with the seal of the government.

Alright. Who next then? Ignas? The bastard knew something about self control, but was also a useless wretch. There was no sign of the artificer, so there was little point there. He would avoid the elvish mage that had once tried to obliterate him with a spell. Probably not the best choice.

There always was.. hell.

Count D'Zir,

I know that we have...

The note was QUICKLY ripped up. No, he would see how his other options panned out first, and Seth after that. Perhaps Coran could supply the mapmaker with some of what he needed, but he would not give him the satisfaction of it, not after the last words that had been spoken between them. It would look, at face value, that he would be doing everything the channeler said he would. Glenn was desperate, less so about dreams than about other matters, but he was not THAT desperate, not yet.

Young Glenn,

Come to me on an evening before a day that is not predicted to be tiresome for you. First I will reiterate the dangers with you, and then if you are steadfast, you will have some of my secrets.

Valgar

Glenn might claim to understand the dangers, but Valgar was determined not to have any incidents of 'you didn't tell me about this!' and 'you didn't tell me about THAT!' Therefore, one could never have enough conversation in regards to potential hazards.

Therefore, this missive was left with the bartender, for Glenn was a frequent enough visitor; it was a simple roll of parchment with a binding braid of thread.

Davaryn was sleeping before the fire... he was for the moment peaceful, not plauged by nightmares. Fingers hooked braids back and she picked up her quill, it was time to reply to glenn's note.

Mister Burnie, It would be a pleasure to speak with you... most evening of late find me frequenting the broken dagger.

It was quite brief, but it definately covered everything, and she would call for a messanger.

Somehow, Kyra had received that letter, had read it, and even scrawled a reply in the same elegant, flowing script with which she had originally written the Governor upon her arrival in Myrken. It was a simple peace of parchment, sealed with a bit of wax with an arcane symbol impressed upon it - Glenn would have no difficulty removing it. Any others, however, would find the message impossible to open.

Dearest Glenn,

I am honored that you would turn to me for assistance, given your admitted disdain for magic. It would be my pleasure to assist you in your difficulties, and Myrken in its. Please come find me within the Dagger when you are able - I find myself frequently within my room working upon enchanting equipment, and most certainly will be there to receive you.

Yours,
Kyra

The letter finally arrived to the Broken Dagger. It was meant to be sent a day or two ago but there had been a scribbled thing forwarded instead. This was a little clearer at least though it showed signs of many words being scratched out, of many false starts to sentences.

Valgar,

I am going to have to put our lessons on hold, given a recent trauma. I know our time is limited and I am sorry for my own shortcomings. We will continue as soon as I am able.
