First Impressions

At around twenty summers of age, Cinnabar Calomel is lean and wiry of build and stands maybe 5'9" in height. His fine-boned features hint at some elven heritage, an impression reinforced by slightly pointed ears and eyes of pale grey. His hair is silvery white despite his apparent youth, and worn cropped short into unruly tufts.

He dresses in clothes of fine quality but practical cut, usually favouring a loose linen shirt, a doublet and britches of soft leather, and comfortable knee-length boots. The skillful tailoring of his clothes and the surpassing quality of the matched rapier and dagger at his belt indicate a man who not only appreciates excellent craftsmanship but can also afford it, though he steers clear of the gaudy ostentation and vulgar showiness often displayed by nobles and dandies. A slight accent reveals him to be a Derryman, and indeed if asked he claims to hail from the small town of Clearwater in the mountains of Derry.

Currently

Idealistic, well-spoken and possessed of seemingly boundless youthful enthusiasm, Cinnabar Calomel is a relatively recent arrival in Myrken Wood, but one who seems destined to make his mark upon the territory. Already he has played an integral role in the establishment of the Myrkentown Constabulary, following his appointment to the newly-created position of High Constable of Myrkentown by former Governor Coriolanus Helstone.

Calomel was responsible for the Myrkentown Constabulary forces involved in the Battle of Haberdasher's Row, in which a mob of disenfranchised citizens under Altias Bromn's direction and accompanied by a contingent of Janeiro soldiers commanded by Aeryn Karolinger marched against the Meetinghouse with the goal of forcibly removing Governor Helstone from office. After a brief stand-off and even briefer skirmish the dissidents were successful in their endeavour; in the process six Constables were slain and many more were injured, including the High Constable himself.

It was not long before Cinnabar recovered from his injuries sufficiently to return to his duties and resume his training as an apprentice swordsman under the tutelage of Tempestro Starr. He has on occasion crossed practice blades with Agnieszka Kaczmarek and come off the loser against the more experienced fencer, which is something he seems intent on rectifying.

Of late, Calomel has garnered attention for his participation in the assault upon the ghoul Teron Ashfiend's lair at the Priory of Snowstill, commanding a force of Constables alongside the Shepherd Knights and the Gray Lancers. The Ashfiend's army of walking dead was routed after a fierce battle, but the ghoul himself escaped, subsequently to strike at the town of Foggy Bottom. Cinnabar once again distinguished himself by his swift reaction to the calamity, and his work to organise a combined relief effort for the stricken townsfolk.

The Ashfiend subsequently made a brutal attack against Calomel's recently-acquired farm, resulting in the deaths of several of the farm's tenant-workers. In the wake of this Calomel declared that, given the prolonged absence of Governor Bromn and the ongoing failure of the Judiciary Council to satisfactorily address the threats facing Myrken Wood, he was assuming the authority of the Office of the Governor in order to see the people of Myrken Wood properly served by their government.

In Others' Words

[This is a place for other characters' views on Cinnabar, for good or ill. What they might say if asked for their opinion on the fellow, if you will.]

Cuthbert: He's fast... he caught my rabbit.

Agnieszka: "I like him -- this Head Constable thing ain't gone to his head like it would for most. Oh, yeah, and he still has a long way to go 'fore he beats me, no matter what he says!"

Ariane: "Cinnabar's done me a favour which I do not forget, and when there are not politics between us, I reckon him for a friend. He plays a fine game of chess, but be sure that his are the white pieces; the colour suits him better."

Deost: "Calomel? Why are you asking me? You have questions, ask him. Good day, sir."

Glenn: "Cinnabar? You ask me, he's got as good a head on his shoulders as anyone in Myrken, a bit too good sometimes, you know? Still, we'd all be better off if the Council would just let the man do his job."

Glenn (looking back): "Oh hell, did I really say that? Watch what you wish for and all that, right. No, seriously. I trust Calomel with my life."

Zalin: "Messer Calomel? A good man, all in all. It is a rare thing to find an authority with as much common sense, discretion, and sense of justice. A rare honest man."
