Description

Tubbius is one of the divine forms of The Glutton through which The Great Slug makes contact with humanity. In this form, Tubbius appears as a mountain-sized, naked, elderly, white-bearded human from the waist up as he seems to sit with his lower half buried in the grass of his great plain. That lower half is, however, a massive root system spanning a great deal of his Endless Plain where he lives, anchoring Tubbius firmly in place to await the regular rains and sunlight of his realm that keep him so abundantly overfed.

Mythos Details

Tubbius' origins begin with a farmer named Ploav, who was a loyal follower of Marta who was, ultimately, possessed by The Glutton, who was actively working to corrupt the farmer's understanding of Marta's beliefs and in doing so to gain a foothold with humanity. The attempt surged briefly, adding to the fertility rites and beliefs an emphasis on nature and growth to gain a small following. Eventually, though, Ploav's local reputation faltered, and the farmer was forced to flee his home community with many of his followers. However, Ploav's veneration by his followers after his death meant that The Glutton had the connection that he wanted, though a small one initially.

The birth and abandonment of a plump infant named Tobias at the door of the one church devoted to Ploav. As the boy grew to adulthood and became influential within the Ploavian church, The Glutton used lies through divine revelation to twist the beliefs of the small sect of half-faithful followers, resuming his corruption of beliefs begun with the mortal Ploav by incorporating his own aims of corpulence and gluttony into the existing concept that Ploav was a minor nature and harvest god. The gluttonous aspects were heavily emphasized, more so than the nature and harvest concepts; the believers, eventually christened "Tubbians" when Tobias declared the god's complete name to be "Ploav Tubbius," soon grew into their generally overweight shapes and their indulgences into food and drink alongside their farming activities and devotions.

Background

Origins

Among the gods of his pantheon, Tubbius is an offshoot of The Glutton. Although his position as a deity was earned through trickery and deceit, he does maintain a group of human faithful that has steadily grown, especially in the past two centuries, securing his place among his divine brethren.

The Broken Dagger

Tubbius, as a deity fixed in one planar location, cannot and will not interfere with the Broken Dagger in his mountainous form.

The Present

Ultimately, the "Ploav" portion of the name was dropped as time passed and the influence of the church spread, yielding solely the name "Tubbius." Further evolution of their faith would include, ironically, worship of Marta with The Glutton's divine replacement of her in their pantheon and would also include worship of Porcus, The Glutton's former attempt at establishing mortal followers.

The Tubbians believe that the living head of the Church of Tubbius, going by the title of Tubbius Regalis, is Tubbius incarnate. To date, this title has been held only by two individuals: the aforementioned Tobias and the current holder of Aloisius Treadwell. The believers, though, only have part of the information correct: their current leader is more than just the jolly and merry Tubbius in the flesh but is actually the mortal host of The Glutton who originated their faith through his deception. Thus does The Great Slug continue his slimy hold on what he sees as his church alone, slowly molding the Tubbians as closely to full devotion to outright gluttony as is possible.

Plots

Tubbius himself has not been directly involved with major plots in the Broken Dagger. However, due to Aloisius Treadwell's place within the Tubbian faith, the mountainous deity does see a fair amount of mention both in channel and on the forums.
