Paul's role playing experiences began in a slight twist on the usual way: he was exposed to Dungeons & Dragons, then owned by TSR, at nine years old, when he saw an advertisement for one of their boxed sets (Set 5: Immortal Rules) on the back of a comic book and told his mother he'd like to give it a shot. That Christmas, he was sitting in the living room reading through the first boxed set (Basic Rules) and playing through the sample solo mission in the first book.
He was hooked.
This led in the short term to more focused attempts at role-play with cousins and neighbors, progressing from D&D through all manner of other tabletop RPG systems about everything under the sun, until he was in his senior year of high school. Paul RPs primarily to break away from stress, although there are also the very sizeable benefits of keeping his typing skills sharp and giving him an opportunity to continue writing despite having a lack of time to do so outside of FFRP thanks to work!
