The Underdark

The Underdark

Purpose

To ensure that the Myrken Wood province can sustain food for her populace in even the most extreme conditions--pestilence, fire, the winter months and, in some cases, even flooding or high winds.

Means

For the current farmlands and crops, a wide variety of attributes can be attuned to them by means of alchemical enhancements--natural, safe and with no ill side effects all drawn from naturally growing crops prevalent to the Underdark.

New lines of food stuffs can be grown in dark and slightly damp atmospheres by building an underground locale meant to house farmers, and grow the new variety of crops. The underground locale will be heavily guarded and safe from fire, pestilence, winter months, flooding and high winds. In essence, unless betrayal strikes Myrken Wood from behind, she will always have food.

Food Stuffs

Ilph'aonar, "Green Guardian": A favorite among the dark-skinned race of the drow, the Ilph'aonar mushroom grow in the toughest of conditions and in heavy amounts. The Ilph'aonar, or "Green Guardian", is best known for its resistances to disease brought on by either pest, due to its incredibly thick skin, or introduced by other means--sabotage, or natural spill. The Green Guardian can grow upwards to twenty feet and has a sweet taste to it. It has been said that a group of ten drow lost in the Underdark for months was able to survive on one Ilph'aonar mushroom surpassing fifteen feet.

Moluque, "Cavern Storm": Known for its distinguished taste when simmered, the Moluque mushroom, or known as "Cavern Storm" in rough translation, is yet another drow favorite in terms of vegetable matter. Other than being quite filling, the Moluque's attribute can bestow heightened strength onto the benefactor. With exterior tough and growth reaching near ten to twelve feet, it is often referred to as the "Grey Giant".

Cal'aere, "Noble Blood": Brightly colored and coupled with a heavenly smell, the "Noble Lady", or "Noble Blood", is used for cleansing the body of unnatural substances--poisons, magical effects. The Cal'aere, when distilled and processed, will instill its heightened growth attribute on the benefactor. Used with the Moluque's attribute of heightened strength, crops grow quicker, stronger, and produce better results in terms of taste, nutrients, and even color. Resilient and beautiful, a rare thing in the Underdark, the Noble Lady clears even beyond the Ilph'aonar in terms of growth and one flower can make a considerably large batch of potions.

Aun'tana, "Crypt Lurker": One can always expect to see the Aun'tana, or "Crypt Lurker", at the scene of a death in the Underdark, and can usually be found on the plates of many a drow during meal time. The Aun'tana has the most distinguished flavor, and can be used on many a dish, even a dessert or two. Other than the abundance of it, the Crypt Lurker has no special attributes.

Belaufein, "Eyes of Flame": Edible, but mostly used for fiery decoration, the Belaufein, or "Eyes of Flame", is one of the more difficult, and rare, entities to grow. It has a natural resistance to fire and, when distilled and processed, the same attribute can be applied to the benefactor. It takes one with an acquired taste to even bother with the Belaufein--in some circles, it has become a delicacy.

Vassra, "Blood Weaver": The Vassra, or "Blood Weaver" is not recommended for eating as it has a near bitter taste, but can be consumed under difficult situations. The Vassra is usually harvested for its innate attribute of heightened resilience.

The Dala'vaesan Compound

To render the project a considerable success, the growth location for the new crops will need to be in a controlled and heavily secured condition, that provides shelter for the farmers and processing locales for alchemical alterations. Created in the ground, or the mountains of Myrken Wood, the Dala'vaesan Compound serves all purposes and will provide considerable comfort to under-dwelling individuals. If approved, plans will be drafted to include living quarters, deep-set caverns for crop growing, among other necessary living arrangements--shops, places of worship, and locales for relaxation. Provided that plans run accordingly, the project is expected to be completed in three months by the use of magical means that enhances digging and growing efforts.
