Information on Old Hibera has yet to reach the ears or scribes of anyone in Myrken Wood, the tiny kingdom from which New Hibera evolved being of no use to anyone there and a number of days distant, just outside the coastal town of Westenford in Amasynia. Old Hibera has a much richer history than its younger offshoot, however, having been around for a total of 738 years (bringing the year to 738 Aengus Reckoning in both lands).
Old Hibera itself was founded under the reign of king William Aengus, father to Richard Scott Aengus and grandfather to the current king of New Hibera, Richard Andrew Aengus. William Aengus ruled the kingdom for 150 years, with his rule being followed by his equally politically savvy son for the next 337 years. Then the Richard everyone knows and loves came along. . . and, to say the least, he does not claim to be a political genius.
Old Hibera, like its similarly sized sister nation, has no exports to biglings, being extraordinarily self-sufficient--especially since it, unlike its sister nation, is above ground and able to make use of the resources there. Otherwise, all of the same cultural restrictions and many of the same laws apply from one kingdom to the other, including the extensive, demanding social caste system.
Old Hibera is currently ruled by Richard Aengus's former queen, meaning that a shift in year reckoning, as well as a shift in political practices, might be due reasonably soon. Then again, as is often quoted among the little people of combined Hibera, "fairies don't like change."
