Location

Colmouth, like several other townships, sits on the coast of the Sea of Amasynia; specifically and fittingly, it sits at the mouth of the River Col that flows from Lake Mavoiir.

Facilities

Being set between a river and the sea essentially guarantees a devotion to shipping and maritime pursuits. Of special interest is the seafood market that occupies most of the eastern border of the town; it sells fish and seafood of all types, acting as a central exchange for such food from both the Sea of Amasynia and down to Lake Mavoiir. However, due to recent pushes from Mayor Gree to diversify the town's industries, select citizens have been encouraged to pursue other areas. While this has been somewhat of a rocky start for the last year, what appears to be a promising bakers' guild is fast taking form, occupying the southeast portion of town.

Of other interests, the City Council meets in a reasonably opulent structure roughly centered on the northern boundary, overlooking the Sea. A family-run lighthouse, the Light of Col, sits at the northwest corner of town.

While most of the township holds to the One True Faith, there is a rounded, domed structure devoted to the Church of Tubbius Run by local Lord Tubbian Percival "Percy" Gree, the Mayor's brother, this building is one of the largest of human Tubbian gatherings at forty-six members, rivaling the recently reestablished church in Myrkentown led by their Tubbius Regalis Aloisius Treadwell.

Authorities

As with most other towns in Amasynia, Colmouth is subject to the laws created by the City Council and enforced by judges and the town police. Of note, some of the judges operating under the Council serve in a traveling capacity, making circuits to and from Furt by boat every quarter. Historically the subject of considerable corruption under the rulership of Mayor Daniel Gree from 150 to 161 AR. (as discussed in Albrecht Durning's play The Comedy of Laws from 160), as the Mayor's title has passed from Gree to Gree, Jr. to Gree, III, efforts have been made to clean up the bribery and self-service in the town's ruling infrastructure, leaving the current system respectable.

In 238 AR, the Gree family dynasty of Mayors will be upset radically by a surprise victory of Harvell Urias Treadwell. On his twenty-first birthday in 235, he will travel north from Myrkentown to Colmouth to assume leadership as the new Lord Tubbian of the Church of Tubbius in the area; within three years, Colmouth will become the stronghold for the faith, supported by an influx from Myrkentown's membership at the command of Harvell's then ninety-year-old father. Shortly after his twenty-fourth birthday in 238, Harvell runs for office, taking the Mayor's seat due largely to a powerful political platform based on the ability for the Tubbians to meet the needs of the people who will, at that time, be bordering on starvation due to a reduction of fish in the area thanks to an overly aggressive fishing industry. As a response, Harvell will oversee, with the assistance of his faithful and the City Council, a push to shift the economy toward more conventional agricultural and livestock pursuits where possible to ease off the fishing industry for a time. Though initially met with distrust by the fishers and merchants in the area, his careful explanation of his plan of action, accompanied with a sizable donation of food supplies imported from the Myrkentown and Westenford Churches, wins enough support from the people when the Mayor's position comes to a vote in the middle of 238 AR.

Defenses

The people of Colmouth are protected dutifully by the town police and can generally organize a standing militia or naval force in short order from its 4,000 strong. Most of the townsfolk are solid, hard-working individuals who are more than able to defend themselves as necessary, and many of them know the details of being on a ship, giving them innate advantages should they ever need to go into naval warfare.

Economy

The economy of Colmouth is bolstered by a fluid interchange of deep-sea fishing and trade for freshwater fish from Lake Mavoiir to the south. Otherwise, there is a strong maritime trade up and down the coast between Colmouth and Furt, in particular, as well as occasionally Westenford.

Travel

Travel within the city is eased by the presence of wide roads designed to accommodate trade and travel, emphasizing more than enough room for carts and transport. This is the result, largely, of Judge Daniel Gree's efforts to attempt to make Colmouth a copy of his native Westenford in as many ways as possible.
