Once upon a time, long ago, there lived a [[mage]] of promising skill up in the many mountain ranges of the Carpathians. Within the chantry were other [[mage]]s, learning and honing their crafts, practicing the arcane rituals which would feed them more power.

However, something else lived within the chantries. The young man heard stories, but refused to believe the rumors. "[[Vampire]]s couldn't inhabit the chantries of the [[Order of Hermes]], we would find them and dispatch them," thought the young [[mage]] to himself. Over time, living within the cloistered sanctuary that the mountains offered, he grew in power and status among his peers, finally becoming noticed by the higher ups in the Order, as well as by the watchful eyes of the usurper [[Tremere]] clan.

Time passed on, and soon the young man grew middle-aged, and was very close to running his own chantry within the Carpathians. However, that was not to be. For a few months before he was to ascend as an elder of the Order, the [[Tremere]] made their move. Darkening his soul with their [[embrace]], the man was reborn unto darkness, becoming one of the things he refused to believe in - a [[vampire]].

He was found by one of his peers, his throat torn open in his neck, blood splattered everywhere. For fear of what the man might become, he was promptly buried within the crypt below the chantry, deep within the mountainside of the Carpathian Mountains. As he awoke the next evening in the cold, darkened chamber, he was suprised to find himself there. Even still, he was suprised to see a few of his peers were waiting for him. With smiles on their pale faces, they told him of what had become of him, and what it would mean for him.

They took him to another chantry at the other end of the mountain range, where none would know his face. For many years, he practiced his [[magic]]k craft as well as learned what it was to be a [[vampire]]. He lived happily, always wanting to gain as much power as possible, and becoming a [[vampire]] had given him more then he could ever imagine. But soon, one of the Order arrived in the Chantry where the man had inhabited, saying they were attacked by [[vampire]]s. The representive was of the same chantry that the man used to be in. Upon recognizing the [[vampire]] as the dead man who was found with his throat torn some years ago, he was accused by the representative of being a [[vampire]] and a spy. A bloodbath soon ensued between the [[vampire]] members of the Order and the human members.

As [[magic]]k versus [[magic]]k was casted, the chantry soon began to crumble and finally collapsed on the survivors, just as sunrise approached. Being buried under the rubble was a blessing in disguise for the [[Tremere]], for the rays of the devestating sun could not touch them from beneath the debris.

As they slept, word spread of what happened and a compilation of soldiers from the Order made their way to the battlefield and waited until nightfall. As the [[Tremere]] survivors burrowed their ways out from the under the chantry, they were attacked again by the [[Order of Hermes]]. Seeing their bretheren begin to fall, many [[Tremere]] ran for their lives. The man was one of them. But he was followed, pursued all across the lands, always keeping a swift step ahead of his pursuers.

But one night, many years later, he was found and cornered. The man had studied many different [[magic]]ks in that time, and decided, right before he was about to be forced into [[torpor]], that he must cast a risky spell. Channeling all of his energy, he enacted the spell, and a rift within the very fabric of existence opened up. Passing out into [[torpor]] from the expended energy, the [[Tremere]] stumbled forward and fell into the gateway. As the members of the order looked on in shock, the gateway snapped closed behind him, and the [[Tremere]] was gone.

He awoke in a strange land, looking up towards a strange face - [[Varian]]. Not knowing where he was, he wondered if he were in heaven or hell. As the man calmed, he told the [[Ventrue]] about his past, and how he arrived in this land. In thanks to [[Varian]] for saving him, the man vowed to help [[Varian]] in any way possible. After many years under the wing of [[Varian]], the man soon became the personal protector for [[Varian]].

However, paranoia soon grew with the man, and he decided to leave [[Varian]]'s residence one evening, for fear that the Order would somehow find him and enact revenge upon [[Varian]] for his kind hospitality to the outlaw. Covering his tracks, the man vowed to never use his real name again, forced himself to forget his real name. Promising [[Varian[[ that he would return whenever he was in need, the man now known as Lucian left the land abruptly.

But, as he promised, when [[Varian]] needed him, he returned and ascended back into his spot of guardian to the prince. None can be sure how long Lucian will stay this time, but in the back of his mind, he knows that the [[Order of Hermes]] might be around any corner, and could follow him to [[Trae Kelsa]] at anytime. And this fear will always keep Lucian a true loner, and a vagabond.
