Description
Normally a well-built young woman, refugee life has left Holly with a little less weight than her frame was built to hold. Average in height, the young woman's features are generally unremarkable, save for curly, out of control hair.

Background
Origins
Born in Derry, Holly quite expected to live her entire life in that province. War changed many things though, and Holly was among the refugees who came pouring into Myrken Wood from war-torn Derry.

The Present
After a winter of Famine, Holly finally found work at the Broken Dagger and uses her income to support her family.

Niall is a young woman. She looks to be in her late teens. Not the most attractive girl to begin with, her appearance is not enhanced by the scars that track down the left side of her face. Her hair is an odd color - brown, for the most part, but it fades to ivory at its tips.

She is almost always clothed the same way - sturdy trousers over a pair of boots, a linen shirt with a leather vest. Her hands and neck, when not hidden by gloves and scarf, are marked with blue tattoos, a complex design of interconnected runes that fuel the young sorceress' magic.

Rather sullen and taciturn by nature, the girl lives with the mage Kyra. Originally from related but warring tribes, the relationship between the two was founded in fear and threats from the older to the younger, but has since grown into something more.

Her closest relationship is clearly with Elliot Brown. The two have been friends since shortly after Niall's arrival in Myrken Wood, the boy being one of the few willing to tolerate Niall's strange ways. The change from Elliot Brown to Elliot Gahald, created by the mindwitch Rhaena Olwak, was traumatizing for Niall. She tried many ways to undo what the mindwitch had wrought, even going so far as to entrust her life and body to Whelp's It. The demon kept Niall safe even while her body was killed by Cherny in a ruse to try and jolt Elliot back to his true self. This attempt failed as all others had.

Since then, Niall has recovered slowly - physically, at least. Demoralized, she has chosen to travel with the northerner Jarek Gora.
About
Rhaena Olwak, Glenn Burnie's wife, began as a simple trader. After arriving in Myrken with her brother, Kals Olwak, she went through several misadventures while learning to use her own powers over the minds of others. This, however, only led her into more trouble. Despite it all, she worked to make Myrken a better place, creating the Foundation to aid the needy and starting a school for all children.

Reign of the Mindwitch
Encounters with drow, the Dreamwaker, and Catch all served to eventually drive Rhaena into madness. Rhaena effectively seized control of Myrken from Glenn Burnie and set about making the town into her own version of what it should be. She meddled widely in the minds of others, some to small degrees and some to large. She twisted her best friend, Agnieszka into supporting her, but went even farther with Ariane Emory and Elliot Brown. Ever thorns in her side, Rhaena effectively erased them from existence, replacing them with personalities she preferred. This awakened Glenn Burnie to what she was doing and he tried to stop her. His interference allowed Ariane, at least, to recover from Rhaena's attack. The Governor, however, was imprisoned in Golben.

A Murder Mystery
One day, the entire town found itself in confusion. Some magic had swept across the land, erasing the memory of the past several hours from those in its path. In the aftermath of this, the body of Rhaena Olwak was discovered in her own home, with Ariane Emory and Agnieszka River standing over it, both with no memory of what had happened.

Niall's fierce devotion to the young man is quite apparent these days.

She is also occasionally seen in the company of Tebrin and has lately shown a clear interest in the newcomer Whelp and Whelp's darker side.
About
One day, the grubby urchin simply appeared at the tavern. Skinny and dirty, with short-cropped blonde hair and large blue eyes, the child's gamble paid off, both literally with the dragons Drache and Syn providing the waif with coins and figuratively with Dulcie giving the child a job in the kitchens and a place to sleep. Since then, the urchin - in a cleaner state - has become a fixture around the tavern, constantly trying the patience of the kitchen staff with the child's obsession for turning anything long and pointy into a sword and pretending to be a knight. No longer hungry, the urchin is still willing to provide information in exchange for coins, which has proved fairly lucrative thus far.

If asked, Cat will lie outrageously and claim to be twelve years old. Eight would be a better guess, ten at the most.

Though Cat continues to work at the Tavern, the urchin has also been quietly (or not so quietly) spending time with Elliot Brown and Solena.

Rhaena Olwak is the youngest child - and only girl - of the Olwak family of Traders.

Originally having come to Myrken Wood with her older brother Kals to help manage the family business, Rhaena has grown away from her family and is now the governor's lady (though the two are not married). Among other things, she manages the Foundation and runs Myrken's school. She dresses in elaborate gowns from Razasan these days rather than the concealing veils she used to wear.

Past Escapades
Rhaena has gotten herself into trouble with fair regularity in Myrken, along with her best friend Agnieszka and Glenn Burnie. At one point, the dark elf Sarayn Dala'vaesa severed Rhaena's left hand. Years later, it was replaced by Catch's magic, though the new hand is clearly not made of flesh.

Inception
Lex was first introduced to roleplay by a variety of media, ranging from Dungeons&Dragons boxed sets (complete with one (1) whole piece of grid paper for maps!), through text-based PC games and on to various nintendo games in which her dashing swashbuckler heroine was represented as rather underwhelming blob. Despite this sterling background, it took her over a year to discover the roleplaying channels on IRC's Dalnet. On the brighter side, however, the channel she did discover was #The_Laughing_Dragon, where she encountered Marauder and Falyar Tar'en, was swiftly introduced to the ways of FFRP, and never looked back.

Progression
Several months of TLD were enough to addict Lex thoroughly to FFRP, and so when she was invited to #Darkshade_Hall, she joined the fun there without hesitation. Over time, however, her first character -- Lilith_ KnightRain -- grew a little stale, and the time came (as it generally does) for a change. D'arcy Jones was born. A year of localised mourning followed.

Lex spent several years roleplaying at #Darkshade_Hall, as a regular player, an operator, and as one of its founder's occasional warlords. It was only on the death of that founder, and the subsequent closure of the channel, that she moved (with several of its other core players) on to #The_Silver_Blade_Tavern.

The less said about this period of time, the better -- except to note that some wonderful friendships were made, some emnity resolved, and that it was both a pleasure and a relief to finally move on. Circumstances led Lex to a brief sojourn in the #All_Trades_Inn, where for a short time she enjoyed the honour of performing as a Weaver for the channel founder. But in time, she found her true home at #Broken_Dagger, where she's been playing a new character -- Ariane Carnath-Emory -- ever since.

During her time at #Broken_Dagger, Lex has served the channel as both operator and Co-Founder, has had the honour of collaborating with Wendy in development of some of the setting material, and most recently has taken over maintenance of the channel's website, BrokenDagger.com.

She's still figuring out this Wiki stuff, though. And just by the way: Sam Fisher? Totally dead. Kaput. Deceased.

Wendy is a published writer living in Central Virginia. Her role-playing experience helped to blossom her talent from the start in the original #Broken_Dagger back in 1995.

Her creation of everyday characters--tavern owner, Raegan, her sister, Shannarah, the barmaid Carys and Governor Gad Phuri helped to create a framework of "locals" in and around the Dagger. Over time, the Dagger has grown to include many familiar faces, like the characters: Pritchard, Jarek, Quincy, Burel Tassnehof, Lenore and Ariane.

Due to Wendy's effort, and that of her teams of channel operators, the channel has grown from a place to exchange "in-character" (IC) banter and ideas into a working world of citizens, government and history.

Wendy created the lands by using the details described by the role-players of #Broken_Dagger, often co-creating with Mongrel and Carnath-Emory to make the written world a more realistic place, where people could write and engage in storytelling by interacting with one another.

Wendy is coming back from 'retirement' and role-playing online, and it is always with a glad heart that she revisits the Dagger. The world it has become is an accomplishment that she will continue to be fond of.

Too much about me
Melanie began her career in roleplaying here in the virtual world a very long time ago. 1994, if you really must know, in a faraway land known as Prodigy. A place where the roleplay was never as perfect as we remember and the Visa bill could very well kill you.

She began as a wandering swordswoman named DeathRose who was befriended by such long ago vets as Phoenix God, Lord Xanth, Tyge and Tia Wolf. Eventually it was discovered that she was the cousin of Chantaclair Rose, Queen of Delium. She still makes her way here to the realms from time to time, making her living now as a blacksmith, her days of being a swordswoman left far behind, she hopes.

She was also known as Lady Bliss who eventually became BlissNoire, a (cough) vampire of the Toreador clan. Bliss was befriended by such Prodigy legends as Val'n Green, Narcissa, Tynan, Lawnmowerman and of course, Skullhunter. She and Skullhunter eventually married. They have one son, Jaden Soulhunter who comes to Myrken Wood every now and then.

After the death of Prodigy, Melanie wandered about, making short stops in other web based RP forums, never quite finding herself at home. Then she found the Broken Dagger with the help of her good friend, Mongrel.

She appeared here as Altias Bromn, the spoiled and wealthy son of a lumber baron. He was originally brought in to be a part of the fighting ring at the Gaol, it never quite happened. The character of Altias took on a life, and mind, of his own. He has found himself as Governor of Myrken despite his inability to fight, and his rather...sensitive nature. His dearest friend in the realms is Ariane, they are often more than friends, but don't let that get around. What, with her being a female and all.

Altias has been missing more than a few times, but this time, a body has been found. It seems that, once again, Myrken is without a Governor.

Jirai: /* Street Constables */

The Myrkentown Constabulary is an organization of citizens sworn to and empowered by the Governor of Myrken Wood to uphold and enforce the law within the boundaries of Myrkentown.

Purpose
The Constabulary's primary responsibility involves protecting the security and safety of the public and of private individuals. Duties include maintaining public order (also known as the Peace), preventing or investigating criminal activity against the public, private individuals and property, and apprehending those involved in perpetrating such acts in order that they may be brought to justice.

Organization
The Constabulary is divided into two main branches:

Street Constables are the uniformed officers tasked with patrolling the streets of Myrkentown, and serve primarily as a deterrent to unlawful acts, and also to provide fast on-the-ground response to reported criminal acts or to citizens in distress. Street Constables are expected to be in uniform while on duty, as visible representatives of the Constabulary and the Peace they protect.

Detective Constables are responsible for investigating criminal acts, interviewing witnesses, and gathering the necessary information that will allow a perpetrator to be apprehended and brought to justice. While this involves a certain degree of paperwork, Detective Constables are also required to spend a proportion of their time on patrol with Street Constables, to promote cooperation and camaraderie between the two branches and to keep the Detective Constables in touch with the communities they protect.

Powers
Arrest, Search and Questioning
By virtue of the Oath sworn on joining the Constabulary and the Warrant carried as part of their duties, each Constable is empowered to arrest, search and question individuals they suspect of committing or intending to commit unlawful acts; to search the property of any individual so arrested and seize any contraband or goods which may serve as evidence in bringing the individual to justice; and to detain individuals charged with committing unlawful acts prior to their appearance in court.

Requesting Assistance
Citizens are compelled by law to render reasonable aid and cooperation when requested by a Constable in the performance of his duties. Failure to do so may be considered an unlawful act, and can result in arrest and prosecution.

In certain circumstances Constables may also call upon the Militia or similar officially-sanctioned bodies for support when increased force is required to preserve the Peace, ie: riots and suchlike large disturbances of public order. Such drastic measures are usually only taken when ordered by senior Constables.

Reasonable Force
Constables are sanctioned to use reasonable force in the performance of their duties. This is generally defined as being the minimum level of force required to render a suspect no longer a danger to the public or to the Constable attempting to arrest him, and is expected to be non-lethal in all but the most extreme of circumstances (ie: when the suspect presents a clear and immediate danger to members of the public). A Constable performing an arrest in which the suspect is killed or severely injured will be expected to justify his actions to the satisfaction of his superiors. If excessive force is determined to have been used, the Constable may find himself facing disciplinary action, up to and including trial for assault or murder.

Uniform and Equipment
Uniform
A Street Constable's uniform consists of a dark grey tunic, dark grey leggings. A wide leather belt carries the Constable's truncheon, cuffs and other equipment. A cloak or coat of dark grey wool may be worn while on patrol in cold or inclement weather. Buttons, buckles and other fittings are made of brass. Constables also receive an allowance towards a pair of sturdy patrol boots.

Detective Constables are not required to wear uniform while on duty, but are expected to dress in a manner befitting the gravity and authority of their office.

Constabulary Badge
The Constabulary Badge takes the form of a small shield of polished brass approximately the width of a man's palm. The front is embossed with the coat of arms of the Office of the Governor of Myrken Wood, whose laws and whose Peace the Constables are oath-sworn to uphold. The shape of the badge is a reminder that the Law is to be used as a shield to protect innocent citizens from criminality, not as a weapon by which the citizenry might be oppressed. On the reverse side is stamped the words of the Governor's Warrant, granting the Constable who carries the Badge the powers of their office as detailed above. In this way it serves as marker of office and a legal document combined, and as such a Constable bearing a Constabulary Badge also bears the backing of the Governor.

Street Constables customarily wear the Badge either on the breast of their tunic or as a cloak pin, though it may also be worn on the belt provided it is clearly visible. Detective Constables are not required to wear the Badge openly, and may carry it instead in a leather wallet to be displayed when identifying themselves as Constables.

Equipment
During the hours of daylight Myrkentown's streets are more crowded, but usually more secure; Constables on Day Watch thus bear only light arms and armour, as their duties tending more towards providing a visible presence for the reassurance of the populace. Day Watch patrols are usually comprised of two constables.

Given the range of horrors, monsters and assorted creatures of the night that infest Myrken Wood, Constables assigned to Night Watch duties are typically more heavily armed and armoured than their daytime counterparts. Night Watch patrols are always comprised of at least two officers, and three-man patrols are not uncommon.

Armour
Day Watch armour consists of hardened leather shoulder pauldrons (bearing insignia of the Constable's rank), knee cops and vambraces, and a steel sallet. Further armour is available for use in situations where violence is anticipated, for example crowd-control during riots and other large-scale breaches of the Peace.

Night Watch armour consists of a mailshirt, steel shoulder pauldrons (bearing insignia of the Constable's rank), hardened leather knee cops and vambraces, and a steel sallet. Many Night Watch officers also favour sturdy leather gauntlets and heavy boots, though these are optional.

Weapons
Day Watch Constables are restricted to carrying either a truncheon or a quarterstaff (depending on personal preference) in the course of their standard duties, in keeping with the Constabulary's focus on public order rather than military defense. Such weapons are considered adequate to deal with most situations a Constable might be reasonably expected to face, while minimising the risk of death or serious injury to both the Constable and the suspect.

Night Watch Constables face fewer restrictions on carrying weapons due to the perilous nature of Myrkentown's streets at night; Night Watch patrols universally carry at least one lantern-pole, and in addition to the standard truncheon or quarterstaff each man is permitted to bear a falchion, a crossbow, a halberd, or some combination of the three.

Officers of the Peace
*High Constable Cinnabar Calomel

*Constable Elias Forsythe
Night Watch Constables face fewer restrictions on carrying weapons due to the perilous nature of Myrkentown's streets at night; Night Watch patrols universally carry at least one lantern-pole, and in addition to the standard truncheon or quarterstaff each man is permitted to bear a falchion, a crossbow, a halberd, or some combination of the three.

Alla was born in Myrken, though her parents were not. Raised on a farm, she married a farmer in her turn, and one might have expected them to continue farming, and their children after them. But the Bloody Flux in A.R. 206 changed everything. Left a widow and childless, the woman soon made the decision to pass the farm off to a nephew and, despite the displeasure of what remained of her family, joined the Constabulary herself.

Appearance
A sturdily built woman, she looks older than her not-yet thirty years. Gray streaks her light-colored hair, eyes are a pale blue.

Appearance
Jirai is, without a doubt, one of the less-savory types to be found in Myrken Wood. Though she often hides her face beneath a hooded cloak, one is unlikely to linger long in Myrken without catching sight or hearing about the pale white hair that frames her dark-skinned elven features. At one point, her face had been ruined by scars, twisted in a quite unpleasant manner. However, not long ago, they disappeared without any explanation offered. Not that Jirai is in the habit of offering explanations for anything.

Obscured though her face may often be, what is all too clear is that she is well armed. No less than a short sword, two daggers, and an odd-looking crossbow are usually visible, and those who know her know that there are probably more concealed about her person.

About
She is known among the seedier side as a fairly reliable source of information on a wide variety of subjects - for a price, of course. There was a bit of a stir when she began openly working for Suede Roschen, former Councilor of Agriculture, as a body guard.

More recently, the slender woman has made her allegiance to Faeryl clear, and has aided the other drow in her quest to subjugate Myrken. Some have even heard her claim the name "Auvryrahel" - Faeryl's own name - for herself. Of late, though, the drow seem to have dissappeared, with Jirai appearing only occasionally.

Responsibilities
Trade
The Councilor's main areas of responsibility involve his jurisdiction over the import of goods into and export of goods out of Myrken Wood, including the levying of tariffs and restrictions upon certain types of trade goods, and taking steps to encourage the flow of trade through the territory.

Commerce
The Councilor's domestic duties primarily concern working towards the improved prosperity of Myrken Wood and its citizens by means of encouraging fair trade, productive industry and profitable commerce. This mainly consists of resolving complaints by and disputes between merchants, artisans and captains of industry, ensuring that the various interests of masters, workers and the general public are properly balanced.

The Councilor is expected to coordinate with the Councilor for Administrative Sanctions in order to ensure that fair prices are charged for goods sold to the citizenry of Myrken Wood, and may impose fines on vendors who engage in such reprehensible practises as price-gouging, participating in cartels with the aim of artificially inflating prices, and other such activities which are not in the public interest.
Nimble fingers and a keen wit make her just as useful among some of the seedier elements of Myrken Wood as to her father and his peers - the woman has the remarkable ability to get along with just about everyone.
About
Rhaena Olwak is the youngest child - and only girl - of the Olwak family of Rain Wilds Traders. Rather lanky, much else about her appearance is nearly impossible to determine, due to the fact that she is almost always covered head to toe in the veils and robes her people wear outside of their own country. At Agnieszka Kaczmarek's birthday party, she mentioned that she was seventeen years old.

She is quite curious, and willing to chat with just about anyone about just about anything. Often she seems flighty (Her brother would say spoiled), but that's the vagaries of youth more than anything else.

Having come to Myrken Wood with her older brother Kals, Rhaena justifies her presence by managing the transfer of goods from the Rain Wilds to Myrken. This means that she will often dissapear for various lengths of time, but inevitably returns again. Of late, her trips have been much shorter - oddly enough, for the fact that the flow of goods continues without diminishing.

Past Escapades
Rhaena has gotten herself into trouble with fair regularity in Myrken - much to her brother's chagrin. She managed to be present at the Edificium when Biske went on a rampage, killing three patients. She also managed to get both herself and her brother kidnapped by the minotaur Choss while attempting to rescue Bryce Larose, among many other things.

Currently
Currently, Rhaena has just returned to the Broken Dagger after an extended absence, with wild tales of a magical abduction to a strange world with Agnieszka. She's been paying much more attention to the family business of late, in between time spent with her friends.
Appearance
A slightly overweight man of middling years, Rondeau Spier's once dark hair has largely gone gray and his hairline is certainly receding. The man usually looks somewhat tired these days. He dresses nicely, but not ostentatiously, preferring expensive cloth and cut to flamboyant colors or patterns.

Past
Spier was born in Myrken Wood, though his parents were originally from Derry. His parents were cobblers, but Rondeau had no wish to follow in their footsteps. Beginning with managing the family shop's sales, the ambitious young man expanded their interests, building himself into a successful merchant who deals in a number of different products.

Currently
At the last elections, Spier was elected to the Judiciary Council, the position of Councilor of Trade and Commerce. In truth, he would not have gained the position, had not the true winner of the popular vote become unable to serve. Still, the position is now Spier's, and he does as best he can to manage both his duties as Councilor and his own business. The result is a man frequently exhausted and overworked.

There was a bit of a stir when she began openly working for Suede Roschen, former Councilor of Agriculture, as a body guard, and even more when the former Councilor began appearing with a dusky-skinned babe.

Deathwatch
The Deathwatch: making a life in Myrken Wood is rife with hardship and danger; not only must you deal with privation, hunger, and mage-induced bad weather, but, as an NPC, you are always in danger of being killed for the greater good of the players. This page is dedicated to all the NPCs who have died in the service of the daemon of Plot Advancement. May their memories remain bright!

Jirai is, without a doubt, one of the less-savory types to be found in Myrken Wood, a fact made obvious by the care she takes to hide her face from all. Standing a scant five feet in height, she is almost always garbed in a long, dark cloak with a deep hood that serves to hide her features from all but the most prying of eyes. Beneath that cloak, her clothing is well-cut, but otherwise unremarkable. What really draws a person's gaze, however, is generally the array of weapons she carries openly. No less than a short sword, two daggers, and an odd-looking crossbow are usually visible, and those who know her know that there are probably more concealed about her person.

She is known among the seedier side as a fairly reliable source of information on a wide variety of subjects - for a price, of course. Among the Order of the Straka, she is known for having a bit of a loose hand with her daggers, and recently had several charges brought against her. The dissapation of the Order seems to have laid those to rest, however.

There was a bit of a stir when she began openly working for Suede Roschen, Councilor of Agriculture, as a body guard.

Most recently, she seems to have allied herself with the drow invasion
of Myrken Wood.
Heather got involved with free form on (I know, I know) AOL. Two years later, a friend introduced her to IRC and the Green Dragon Inn (Later known as the Green Dragon Citadel).

Rhaena Olwak is the youngest child - and only girl - of the Olwak family of Rain Wilds Traders. Rather lanky, much else about her appearance is nearly impossible to determine, due to the fact that she is always covered head to toe in the veils and robes her people wear outside of their own country. After not much conversation, though, one would almost invariably estimate her age to be somewhere in mid-teens.
