Yet another letter for Guillaume

Thu Jul 06, 2006 4:58 pm

The letter would be short and simple. Delivered by none other than Lieutenant Jons, long missing from the way of things within the Brotherhood. Still, the grizzled commander would be the errand boy, dressed in garb of a traveller, and once the missive was dropped off at the gates of Lothbury, he would ride off upon whatever other errands he'd been upon...

Giscard,

This letter should find you well, or so I would hope. Let it be known that I am planning a strike against the head of the Drow leadership, and thusly I know that I am placing myself in harms way. To that effect, I am naming Maxwell Bishop to position as temporary Captain of the Brotherhood, and Aeryn is his second. They're both good men, and the Light praise them both, most likely better than I, myself have been of late. In any case, please treat them both with the respect and recognition they will need in the coming days, especially if I do not return from this endevour.

If I do not, let the people know that I struck for them, since they see us as an inactive and petulant gaggle of children. If I do return, I will hopefully have the head of at least one of our would be oppressors, and of course will not need the lamentable benediction. If I do not return, of course, Bishop will retain the captaincy until the men can vote on it, and I would utlise him since he has quite the knownledge on how military matters work. I would daresay that he knows more than I do.

Also. If I fail in this... Count Coran D`zir is available to assist you. And I have sent missives to the Duke in Thessilane, and an old friend out in Heath. Perhaps they will be enough, if I singe my own ass in this silly quest. I am sure you can count on aid, at least in the way of foodstuffs, from the Duke. And perhaps more from the man in Heath. If not... then the dice will land as they will, and fate will decide it all for us.

Oh, one other thing. I do not trust Helstone. An associate of mine has seen him and the 'General' speaking in hushed tones to one another, and I myself saw them clam up when I walked into the Tavern the day before... I do not know what they plan, but watch them. I leave how to your own devices.

Oh, and one more thing. I'm stepping down for the timing being. That way, if I don't come back, you can appoint another to be Councilor of Defence... yadda-ya.

So. The Light go with you, Giscard, and may we prevail in the face of the coming Shadow. Remember, it's for the people.

Kerrak al`Nerun.

The script would have been perfect, soft and serene in all aspects of the letter, just the way Kerrak wrote his usually short letters. Yet at the end, they became harsh words. Angular and angry, especially as he talked about Helstone and Eriks... So too, was the aspect of him stepping down. It wasn't until the last, where he mentioned the people and his name did the writing resume the usual course...

Such a simple reply in return -- and this will find Kerrak at his barracks,

With understandable haste.

I, Giscard Guillaume, Lord of Lothbury Estate, Councilor of the Myrken Wood Judiciary In Regards To Commerce and Trade, Interim Governor Etc., to His Honour Kerrak al'Nerun, the Councilor of Defence and Civil Security:

Greetings.

Your words are well-received, but not without regret. In response I ask but a single thing of you: an hour of your time, at the nearest available opportunity. I hope you will be able to oblige.

Done by my hand at the Estates of Lothbury, this 8th day of July.
Giscard Guillaume.
