A missive arrives at the Rememdium doors.

Once again, the courier is clad in Lothbury colours; the person who receives his scrolled parchment will surely not be surprised to see that the young man is armed -- nor that he has a companion by his side. In this age of drow and vampires and a renewed plague, it is folly to travel alone; or, for that matter, to entrust important information to only a single hand. They will wait meantime, the both of them, to see if a reply need be delivered.

The scroll itself bears the Governor's seal, and reads as follows:

I, Giscard Guillaume, Lord of Lothbury Estate, Councilor of the Myrken Wood Judiciary In Regards To Commerce and Trade, Interim Governor Etc., to Ladies Janessa and Raziqa of the Rememdium Edificium; to Lord Bryce Larose of the Rememdium Edificium: Greetings.

Word has no doubt reached you of the resurgance of the Bloody Flux, or at least a plague of similar vociferousness. I shall not waste your time by detailing this latest disaster for you once more. Rather, let me assure you of something less obvious:

The fate of Myrken Wood's people now lies largely in your hands.

Be of good heart: yours are capable hands; our faith in your skills is high. In demonstration of this fact, know that the Council is willing to provide all materials and physical aid which you might require, and which we can procure: let your concern be the combatting of this foul plague, not matters of supply and demand. You will surely recall the gossamer netting which was put to such good use last year; several large sheets of it will be delivered to your door by nightfall, if not sooner. Spare cots have been commandeered from the old Straka barracks; these, too, will be available for your use as needed, with incumbent linens upon request.

Meantime, our demand is simply this: combat this pestilence. Before his unfortunate departure from this territory, it was thought that Doctor D'Rael had discovered an antidote to the Flux. Certainly there were measures of several sorts taken against it: locate them, if you are at all able. If he has left notes for you in his absence, scour them for what clues and explanations they may provide. We will wish a representative to report to the Council when next we meet -- which will be within days, if not immediately. If you haven't the time to spare a person, then please prepare a written report, however brief. We must know what you have discovered by then; we must know what hope Myrken Wood can safely rely upon.

Do not hesitate to call on us if you have further need. This day, the Council is in your service: instruct us on how we may save this land.

Doctor David D'Rael had found something concerning the last run of the Flux - an antidote it wasn't quite. Certainly not a vaccine; but there would certainly be a few that called it a cure. Because it didn't rid the body of the plague, nor protect against - what it did do was accelerate its exit, speeding its course through the body. A faster course meant less symptoms, therefore dropping its fatality.

...this was all noted, somewhere amidst David's documents and writings. So too was the ingredients, all of which could be found around Myrken Wood - if the pestilence hadn't killed some of the necessary crops. There was also - this much less harder to locate - an address to contact the good Doctor, though any message sent his way would take too long to get, and far longer still to get a reply.

Unfortunetly, the trio running the Edificium were in for a challenging, if not fatal time.

Bryce generally isn't around the edificium until nightfall, so it is unlikely that the letter would be delivered on his watch (or lack thereof since he tends to sleep through most of his shift) but if it DID come he would just leave it for Janessa in the morning, not having any reply to send because he doesn't even read the letter.

A missive delivered to her hands it would seem. Janessa would take the letter back with her into the Doctor's office, and after reading a few lines would shut the door to ensure her privacy while reading it. There was no need for someone to pop in on her and catch sight of what she was reading and spread panic.

A frown would come to her lips, setting the letter down carefully at the table before she would take up pen and ink and a fresh piece of parchment. She would spend her time writing before a messanger would be sent with the following upon it.


"My Lord Governor,

I assure you that I have been most thorough in the keepings of the good Doctor's documents and regretfully I have unfortunate news for you. While the Doctor did indeed find a treatment for the plague it is by no means a cure. The treatment allows the plague to pass more quickly through the body which it seems decreased the fatalities in the last occurance we had here. I hope this will be enough.

You have the thanks of all of us who work in the Rememdium for the much needed supplies, we appreciate the support of the council. Please be assured that we have begun the process of making more medicine for the treatment of this terrible affliction.

Under the circumstances I do hope you will understand my inability to be able to speak with you in person. Please do not hesitate to see me at the Rememdium should you have further concerns that need to be discussed in person.

An odd name she has, only the first it would seem despite her rather eloquent handwriting.

Needless to say she would be sharing with the others exactly what she had read and replied.

Bryce has been around more at the Edificium the last few days, only attending morning drills with the Brotherhood and spending the rest of his time trying to aid the people afflicted with bug bites, injuries from trying to avoid bug bites, and those unfortunate enough to contract the Bloody Flux.

Most people are given ointments for the bites, and other attentions for various wounds, bandages and such.

He is more discreet with his treatments for the Bloody Flux, but the survival rate seems remarkably higher this year. The patients all seem to be heading for the worst and then miraculously pull through for full recoveries.
