A Not Quite Surprising Guest

It's been a very frustrating week for Glenn Burnie. Much of his mandate to do the work that is a large part of his life is solely dependent on the presence of Cinnabar Calomel. Add in a leg that has not fully healed and a broken sword with no easy replacement and there is a very restless mapmaker tromping through Myrken Wood.

It meant that he had plenty of time on his hands. One thing that he WAS still doing, however, was his daily training sessions with Ariane. It meant that he heard about Count D'zir's injury the day after it occurred. It was still a day or two after that before he ended up visiting the man. They were not particularly close. In fact, they had talked less then five times. He knew him mostly through the accounts of other people, despite having once been to his home.

Glenn liked the young Count well enough, though, and that was why he stopped in now, why he looked over him. He had said to Ariane that it could not be an accident or something that was not thought out in advance. She had agreed. Anyone that would attack Coran would either think that they would finish the job or that they could somehow stand to his retribution. And they certainly had not finished the job. It made him wonder, somewhat.

"Unfortunately, Coran," he would say, certainly not expecting much in the way of a response. "I'm not quite sure I have a mandate to look into this much, especially not this week. The Constables will do what they can, I'm sure. They're professionals. I'm just an amateur anyway. I will try to look in on the well-being of your wife and child, though." Mandates there were hard, too. A bridge to his home was in Myrken, but the home itself was not. It meant that Constables could not do much to guard Aislinn and the child.

There would be an idle shrug. He may not have known Coran well, but there was never any doubt that he truly should be friends with this man. He would look down to him and continue, quietly, more for his own sake than anything else. "I'll check in on you in a few days then, too. And Ariane will update me between then and now. I'm growing to truly dislike this place, Coran. I've been here too much recently. I'm sorry that you're here now."
