One Very Bad Night

Thu May 08, 2003 8:20 pm

Good heavens.

Aloisius Treadwell wanted a cigar.

No, he wanted a box of the blasted things. He'd not touched one in well near a month and a half, and tonight's mishaps with a thin, muscular beast that took him up into the rafters of the Broken Dagger, brought him back down to the door, and then did the indignity of sitting on him to keep him held in place did not help matters.

A good bottle of wine from his house, though, would have to do. So, with about a half a bottle of something red stirring in his gut, Gad proceeded to drowsily, drunkenly doze off, quietly humming something or other. At least he'd written up a death sentence (to be delivered in the morning) for the beast in question before touching the bottle.

-----

To: The Guards of Myrken Wood
From: Governor Gad Phuri, Judiciar

Tonight, I was assaulted in the Broken Dagger Inn by a slender, powerful beast with a massive tail, thin nostrils, and a colossal lower jaw. It was able to lift me--quite a feat, there!--jump into the rafters, and then somehow get us both safely back to the floor after I had fainted. An ensuing fight between it and a young man (who, heroically, fought it off and bought me time, though remains currently nameless) saw it spitting something into the lad's face. I was able to escape through the back door of the inn safely enough and get home, but. . . .

The beast is a thin humanoid with pale and scaly skin, greenish-blue eyes, webbed feet, and a tail. Further description can probably be gleaned from Pritchard; the louse stood there and *watched* the whole time.

In short, I wish it dead. Spare no expense. This thing attacked me, *no one* in the inn responded, and who knows if it will strike again? A thousand shillings are here offered as a reward to the man--or guard unit, to be divided as its members see fit--who brings me its head or corpse.

By my hand,
Governor Gad Phuri, Judiciar

Two Nights Running

Fri May 09, 2003 7:22 pm

"Gad" was just beginning to calm down from last night's adventure with his personal beastie. A half a bottle of wine, a day long nap, a late night ride in the carriage. . .

Except that the "beastie" in question had returned. His carriage was jumped on, horses were spooked, and the next thing he knew, Gad was being flipped onto his side with a sickening crunch in his arm. His shirt and coat sleeves began to warm up, their red cloth darkening, and he himself lumbered along in a sort of half-conscious state before passing out.

His carriage--and red top hat, unconscious driver, and two rampant horses--can be found in the morning, that hat still in the carriage that is still wrecked on its side a few dozen yards away from the inn.

Governor Phuri, on the other hand. . . .

The Order of Straka were immediately on the situation. Guards had investigted the area thoroughly, and then expanded their search for a ten mile radius (or however far until the borders of Myrken) for the Governor. There would be little doubt he would be found, but it was hopeful that he could be discovered before something drastic happened to him.

Captain Alexander Kanashia has already informed the other councilors to remain on their own guards, because the beast may be attacking the entire Judiciary, and not just the Governor. However, this is just speculation, but one can not take any chances.

But the Corporals had already been on the scene. In fact, they were there to see the event happen, and they had tried everything they could to try and stop the abduction of the governor. And the only they had to say for it was the same abduction of Corporal Sullivan.

Suffice to say, it would be an angry, impatient Corporal Daniels that would arrive back at the Barracks. But he still had hope - because if the governor and his partner were still alive when he had tracked them halfway through the forest, perhaps the creature had something in mind for them. While that was just as unpleasant as anything else, at least it gave them time.

The report would come soon, and the captain would know the dealings of the previous night. And then Thomas would, hopefully, arrange a search party - he had a general idea to search from, at least.

There had always been stories, legends, of the furies of the Heavens and Hells. There would be a new one to speak of, if Thomas Daniels found Robert Sullivan to be doing anything else but giving the monster a hell of its own.

Clues in the woods

Sat May 10, 2003 8:09 am

The only Evidence marking the placement of the beast with in the woods is a large splattered area of black blood that leads some distances with in and then abruptly stops. One Tree in particular where the Corporal Thomas had come to find it was near soaked in the ichy black fluid that seemed to dry slowly and turn to dust. It was a good sign at least, for those that hunted for it, it bleed and thusly it could die.

The blood was being tracked, nooks and crannies searched endlessly for the beast. Hopefully, the beast could be apprehended. Much to the chagrin of Captain Alexander, the Governor and the Corporal had not been found yet. The hunt would not end, a continuous search for the dangerous beast. He wanted his man alive, and the Governor the same.

A CLue to the Lair

Mon May 12, 2003 1:30 pm

A few days after their Disappearance, A Lone Ghost guides several Guards to the Entrance of the Beast's Lair. It rests hidden by magic next to a small pool in the middle of the woods. What lies with in the Tunnel ways is anyone's guess, But now the Rescue party can finally come togather to reclaim the Pudgy man and the Guard.
