The wagons rumbled up to the gates of
Myrken Town, five left out of the seven that
had left the dockside warehouses on the coast
several days before. All might have been lost
if not for the lucky meeting with a patrol of
Duke Burel's men.But the trip was over.

They were here at last!

The wagonmaster called his men to a halt as a
rather an looking sergeant approached.
"And what do we have here?"

The newcomer handed the guard a scroll."We've
food and supplies for the folk of Myrkentown,
to be distributed under the direction of the
church".He pointed back at a wagon where several
monks sat next to the driver."You'll notice
whose seal is on the bottom of the paper, and
the manifest is all there, minus the goods we
lost in two wagons to atackers.Where can we
set up?"

The sergeant looked at the seal, then nodded.
"The Lord bless her Ladyship! Take it all over
to the town square. I'll send a runner to the
barracks to tell them you'll need some guards.
There's profiteers about, you know!"

"Aye, so her Ladyship's new factotum informed
us. But there will be more wagons arriving over
the next few days. We were just the first to set
out.And those will be better guarded than we
were.Alright, let's get the inspection done so
we can get these things to those who need them."
He jumped down from the wagon and pulled the
canvas cover off the wagonbed.

The sergeant smiled as he looked. On each and
every box and sack was the sigil of RoseJustice.
"Lord bless her! Lord bless Lady AlexiRose!"

A few yards inside the gates, a bearded figure
grinned to himself. AlexiRose would eventually
hear of her newfound generosity. And a certain
black marketeer would find it hard to compete
with free supplies. At least for the moment.
"Aye,Lord bless th' gomeril!"
He walked off, whistling.

But he wasn't the only one watching the gate this day. On the roof of a house but a block away sat two men, one green haired, the other mud. A cigarette passed between the lips of the second as both considered the situation. Word would have to be passed along, and plans adjusted it would seem.

It was on top of the gate, that three men were in something of a discussion. Typically, their attention would be focused more on the exterior of the wall, but the hint of something had caught the eyes of one of the chaps, and that'd brought another up alongside him, until the last had made his arrival as well.

Joshua moved the telescope down for a moment, and furrowed his brow. "Seems a little bit odd, to go up onto the top of a roof in order to have a cigarette, doesn't it?" He asked rhetorically, before turning to the elder of the pair besides him.

Tallfern accepted the telescope from the Lieutenant's hand, and waited, quite simply, for further instructions. It was unlikely that raiding the house would do any good. By the time guards got up onto the rooftop, the two that were there would be long gone. At this poitn though, that wasn't that big of a deal. They were known by these three now, and soon a composite sketch could be arranged. If that was desired.

"There's a man that moves about a good deal. Chap by the name of Dhugal. He's managed to convince quite a number of children to go about singing some of the oddest of songs. It might be that he can be helpful on this particular occassion."

Tallfern and the guardsman both eyed Kilborn speculatively for a moment

"See if you can't fetch him out. Discreetly of course. I'm not positive he himself isn't involved in this, but he might not be."

A salute between the three, and arrangements for another group to relieve them from their positions for now, while they went about the new tasks for the rest of the day.

It would be odd of course, to keep an eye on the interior of the city, but Kilborn would be curious if those two did make reappearances on other rooftops in the near future. Most curious indeed.

Oddly enough, whomever was the last to glance at the two men would receive a broad grin and a pair of waves. They didn't seem to rightly care too much now did they.

"They saw us..."

"Sure did..."

"What do you think..."

"I think my cigarette is about gone..."

"I think I'm just people watching..."

Sat Jul 19, 2003 7:49 am

"Sir. I think they just waved at us"

"Did they?"

"Yes sir, I think so sir."

"Good good."

"What do you want me to do about that?"

"Wave back of course."

"Sir?"

"That'll be all Guardsman."

Sat Jul 19, 2003 8:06 am

"They waved back!"

"Ah..... friendly sorts, they are."

"I'd offer them a smoke, but that's too far to walk... over buildings."

"Oh well... hey look at that girl over there."

"HEY! GIRL! I can see down your tunic!"

And so it happened, that sometime shortly after midday, there was a shriek of indignation that echoed back over a section of Myrken Town.

All this, because Duke Burel's soldiers had safely guarded a caravan bent on reaching the township.

And the shriek would be followed by a whistle and two kneeslapping rounds of laughter before the two people watchers decided it was best to take their leave. Hell hath no fury compared to a woman's scorn after all.
