Where the hell was Alexander? Disappearing was no way to win politcal votes. Alexi Rose didn't care how infulencal she could be with the merchants and other nobles. If there wasn't a man to physically see, there might as well not be a man.
And worry started to crease the corners of her mouth as she drove her horse back through Devil's Ridge.
There are and were by far to many of those in leadership as it was. Men that is. A drunk, An imposter, another with some illness, A farmer and god love him Alex. However she had been in the Gaol twice since he had been in office. Once he had closed the door on her himself and the other time he had let her out. There was something to be said for that. Something she would advoid bringing up to those within the Court.
Altias Brown, was never going to be Governor. Ever. And by some sick twist of fate should that man, ill bread and loathsome as he was get into office. Alexi had vowed to pack everything she owned and leave the Town of Mrken for what ever length that man remained in office. The thought of it alone was enough to make her scream.
The past week had been busy. The Flood took her and about twenty-five others through Devils Ridge. A few peasants, but mostly the group had consisted of Nobles who had been intown when the dissaster struck. Seeing them to their homes in the Northwest took her nearly three days. Three days of silence to much of the thankfulness of some of the town's officals.
However that silence would end. There were issues to address. Letters to write, a husband to kill, people's minds to influence and most importantly a Governor to Elect. A new Captian of the Gaurd to advoid and a Doctor to see. A Duke to befriend and a woman to corrupt. An orphange to open, Ghosts to chase out of a Manor and her personal favorite a bed to Sleep in.
Yet above all of that was the thought of Varian and the notion that he had sought out Gad Phuri on becoming part of the council. - Why did any of this matter to a woman like Alexi Rose?
That of course was the question of the decade. But Varian had wanted something from Alexi once. Something that she had wanted to give, and would in due time. If nothing else she was a woman of her word. When she said she was going to do something she did it.
Which left Gad Phuri forever in the past. She had no idea of his release or kidnapping. Nor had she ever been back to his cell. She had said good bye and meant it.
Retiring to her chambers the merchant had one last thought, as snarles where combed out of her ringlets.
How was she going to contact Starr.
