Quietly skulking in the dark, the elf tread with incredibly light feet, trying nary to make a sound as he snuck about in the darkened hallways of the inn. It was late in the night, and no decent person was out at this hour, only ghosts and those involved in the darker sides of business. Djin -- the court assassin of Eredware moved with incredible patience, ducking from shadow to shadow, blending perfectly into the murk of the night.
"Just one swift blow... and that will end it all," he thought to himself. He had but one target, a political "enemy" of great importance, one only known as Lult Termaer. Catching up to the dissident was a problem -- and detecting one with the taint of the Lord of Shadows was even harder. Relenka had dealt with him in the past, and gave him a gift in exchange for a small bit of his soul. He finally came to the man's door, pulling out several small probes and picks, silently probing the door and finally finding the pins needed to unlock it.
After a few seconds, a soft click could be heard -- thundering through the silent corridor, and the assassin pushed the door open, creeping into the man's room. His window was open, the curtains billowing with the soft nighttime breeze... and there he was, the quarry, lying peacefully -- dreaming of the power promised to him by the Dark Lord for his service.
Seeing the bloated corpse, Djin hissed, a disgusting sight. He drew out a long, curved dagger -- the stabbing edge serrated and engraved with various blessed runes. With catlike grace, he lifted the dagger and thrust the blade into the corpulent man's cold, black heart.
A loud scream of agony came from the dying man's lips, a trail of blood following that final shout. Djin withdrew the blade and stabbed again, grinding the blade into the man's heart, ensuring death. He was not going to leave his prey until he was absolutely sure they were dead -- regardless of the amount of brutality and messiness involved. Nothing else would leave any trace that he was there other than the scream into the night, which would most likely bother few and be investigated by even fewer. With one last, final thrust, Lult let out his final breath and the assassin grabbed his dagger, pulling out a black cloth to wipe the blood off. Sheathing the blade, he turned and looked at the window before leaping out the opening, catching himself on a tree branch and perching -- on the look out in the pale moonlight for any who might be witness before leaping to the ground and fading into the shadows...
