There is this matter of rumours and of pardons, of ellation and sometimes of confusion. But here is something simpler, something which contains no ambiguity at all. It is a very brief letter, penned by a Councilor's own hand, and a copy has been made of it; one is delivered into the care of the Broken Dagger's owner, for delivery to Karolinger should he visit that place a second time.

The other is delivered to the small home of Agnieszka Kaczmarek, Militia Captain.

As for the text itself: should either of these things fallen into Karolinger's own hands, he will discover that they contain a very simple instruction. Aeryn Karolinger -- soldier, guard, condemned man, *free* man -- is reminded that the Crown's pardon does not extend to liberate him from future infractions. He is requested, consequently, to deliver himself to the Councilor's residence at 15 Station Row at the soonest possible moment for what is likely to be a very brief audience.

It is Guillaume's name which signs this; it is the Governor's seal which completes it.
