To Ariane.

To Ariane.

The messenger would be like a statue awash in crimson paint. Hair loosely bound by a cord of leather, uniform dusty from once black boots to the silver threading at his shoulders and neck. The rapping at the woman's door would be repeated twice. And then the waiting begun. Once answered, he would make certain the woman's identity, and then hand over a seal parchment. As usual when it came from Burel, the red wax was embossed with a hawk. The messanger would then step aside, saying that he would return any missive the woman in question would have.

Within, it read:

Lady Ariane Carnath-Emory,

Last evening I was witness to something which, I must say in all honesty, made my heart quell in some fear. Your request to offer the services of Master D'Zir has been brooched once again within my mind, and I would have a meeting with you to discuss it. At your earliest convenience, of course, but I would request that be soon. The man who brought this message will return anything you have to send. Otherwise, I shall be at the Stockade.

Lord Burel
Duke of Thessilane

One should always be drunk. That's all that matters... But with what? With wine, with poetry, or with virtue, as you chose. But get drunk. - Charles Baudelaire
