"C. A. Shew's Carrier Service"

Read the top of the sign. A page of parchment was tacked to the outside of the tavern. Below it read more words in a flowing script.

"For packages that need delivered, of any size smaller than a chair, and weighing less than a person... Leave your money for services rendered, and the package, or packages near the stairwell.

--Captain Alvan Shew's Carrier Service."

Milo Lirrian read the note without contempt; no, there was no disdain. Just amusement. As there always was, when a new 'kid' (figuratively or literally) on the block arrived. It was a slick move - or perhaps it was a dirty move - to affix 'Captain' to his name. It pretended to show credibility. Unless this Alvan really was a Captain. Then it was just sad.

Well. Milo often held himself to high moral standards, but business was business, and other business is bad for the leader. The boy glanced around to make sure no one's eyes were on him before giving the parchment a quick jerk, tearing it away from the tavern. It fluttered to the ground where Milo left it, much less likely to be read.

Milo inserted himself back into the traffic of the North Passage Down, whistling.

Shew stared down sliently from the rafters, watching his beloved sign slowly sway back and forth as it fell to the ground. "Rotten little bugger...", he said watching through the window of the tavern. He had spent that last two weeks living in the rafters of the tavern, living off of small bits from the larder, and now some greedy, snot nosed, inconsiderate brat, had gone and tore down his sign...

Given the next opportunity, Shew snuck out through the tiny fey door on the side of the tavern, and hung the sign again, this time... higher. Over a nice little surprise in the wall, should the little bugger come around again to remove the ad. "We'll see about this young termite..." The shrill voice of Captain Alvan Shew said, safely at home again in the rafters, "We shall see. I weren't the Captain of a derigible fer nothin'..." He sat, silently in the rafters from then on, watching his sign whenever the chance came to him...
