((These events transpired in Ilaria about 1200 years before the current time and way before Valin became a bloodsucker.))

Countless years ago, in the lands controlled by Clan Darkstar in Ilaria, dark events transpired. These events would nearly destroy the clan and bring its lands under the control of a man who's heart had become twisted by an overwhelming lust for power. That man's name was Valin Darkstar, eldest son of Varinus and Lilyth Darkstar, the clan's leaders. This is an account of these events, the source of which is unknown...

Valin's golden eyes flashed with malice and anticipation as he stalked his prey. On this day he would bring about the deaths of three of his younger siblings. If all went well with his plans, his father would declare war upon Clan Shatteredsword in retaliation. Relations between Darkstar and Shatteredsword were strained and Valin could not resist using this to his advantage. A war between his clan and another would give him a chance to amass the forces he would need to further his own ambitions.

He stuck to the shadows as he followed Tyraal, one of his brothers, into the stables within Darkstar Citadel grounds. Elven features twisted with a cruel smirk as he watched Tyraal go about preparing his favorite mount for a ride. He waited for several minutes, utterly silent in the darkness of the shadows, watching his brother's every move. Waiting fo the perfect moment to strike.

That moment arrived as Tyraal placed a saddle upon his horse and began securing it. Without a sound, Valin struck, darting out of the shadows to slip up behind his brother. Tyraal didn't even have a chance to cry out as Valin slammed the thin bladed dagger he had been carrying home, into his brother's brain through the right ear.

Valin watched as Tyraal's body slid to the ground, lifeless, blood oozing from the mortal wound. In sarcastic tones, Valin murmured, "Farewell, dear brother," as he gazed down upon the corpse.

He knew he would need to move quickly now that he had killed the first of his victims. Leaning over, he rolled Tyraal over onto his back. Then he crouched down over the body and carved Clan Shatteredsword's symbol into his brother's forhead with the dagger he had used. With that done, Valin slipped out of the stables, unseen and without a hint of remorse for the atrocious act he had commited.
