<Story of Gretchen>A Past Not Yet Forgotton

"Kate, back inside! Take your brother." Her fathers screams were left ringing in her ears as she ran towards the castle. Battle cries rang out behind her as the war had just begun, knights of elven and dragon nature alike, against the shadows; the darkness that had brought so many warriors to the other side.

She was nothing more then a watchdog, and no warrior..yet. At the age of 17, she didn't look much older then 12, grabing at the arm of her brother she tried to pull him towards the castle. "Mikael, come on..father doesnt want you in this."

"He doesnt have a choice.." Was all the boy said, yet before the words were carried off by the dust in the wind, spurred from the cavalry that passed them by, a cool breeze lingered in the air about both children. These children, the heir's to Gretchen's throne, their home..or what was left of it.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Katalin looked about and sighed as she perched on the roof of the castle, her hiding spot, from all but one. "Mikael, just come out would you?" She smirked a little and turned her head, she always seemed to know when he was about, she just..knew. Katalin had so many secrets that she shared with her twin for many reasons. Her mother had forbid her to learn magic till she looked her age, and as she watched her younger brother, by 2 hours, grow and learn things that he could not teach her, any sain person would grow a little envious. "Mike!"

There was a faint growl as the lanky child leaped over the back of the building, having been hanging there for a good 10 minutes. "Can't you have a little pity and let me sneak up on you..just once?" Mikeal was the exact opposite of Katalin in almost every way. He stood 6'1" and weighed only about 160 pounds. He was a warrior from his deep black wings, shining in all their glory right to his ice blue eyes. Long white hair trailed past his shoulders in exact contrast to Katalins black curls. The only other difference was he feared his fathers wraith if he taught Katalin anything.

She only shook her head and smirked, though the smile quickly left her features. "I would never give you the pleasure of it....ring the bell" She spun quickly to look at him, her elven face pale with fear. "Ring it Mikeal..Now!"

Following her gaze to the horizon, he almost tripped. Spinning he rung the large bell above both children, the long string low enough for Kate to grab and pull, though Mike made it look easy.
Over the horizon came the march of soldiers, a few hundred it seemed to the naked eye as the bell chimmed over the land. As the villagers ran for the castle and the army of dragons and elven alike got into position, no one knew how this battle would turn for the worst.

Leading the pack were mages, and the strongest of them later learned to be Chaos, her father's sworn enemy, as well as her best friends, Raven. Yet as the first scene now unfolded, and she grabbed her brothers arm to take him back to the castle, he pushed her back.

"I have to do this Kate, I wont let father do this alone..Go inside."
Though his hands shook upon his blade for what appeared behind his sister was Chaos himself. Eyes of hollow darkness and shadowed features uplifted in a grin as the mage moved to touch the girls shoulder. She didnt have a chance to turn as Mike dashed forward to throw her out of the way. ~ From here, her nightmares begin~

"Mikeal no!" She screamed as he withdrew the blade, the mage not even giving Mike a chance as he backlashed the lanky childs face. Katalin stood shaking as the screams came over the field, the warriors falling faster as each minute went on, as each new sword was raised, and as hundreds of dark soldiers turned to thousands. Not a word came from the mage as those eyes turned once more on the child and he moved towards her, his pace turning her world into slow motion. Her brother stood with his sword in hand, though as he swung it towards Chaos, it was his last swing, his his last bout of nobility.

A deep blue glow covered the mages hand as he withdrew it from the confines of his cloak and spun, perhaps the fear upon Katalins face giving him away. Though as screams pushed closer to the gates of the capital, what was ment for Kate, the mage pushed onto the chest of her brother. "MIKEAL NO!"

As if the life had left him, he couldnt fight back, the mage had used everything to wield this spell of death. Mikeals sword fell against the cobblestones, a dragon scale falling off the blade to the ground as the soft thunk of his body fell beside it. He gasped for a breath only to whisper ~run~ to his sister, though she couldnt move, she couldnt even breath for the fear that had washed over her. Time fell apart, minutes passed into days for the three, though in Mikeals last moments, Kate knelt at his side to hold him despite her own fear.

She looked up to see the mage laughing, a chill that made her wish she was the one laying in her brothers arms..she should have been. "The summer comming child..be ready" Chaos said threw his insain laughter before the whole world changed. He had paused them within time and only as the mage dissapeared did she realize. With her brothers twitching body clasped tight to her chest, bodies from both sides lay littered upon the ground. The sheer horror of the pools of blood, the fear of knowing she may be all of what was left was leaving her ill..

Emerald orbs closed, though it was her biggest mistake. She felt hands upon her and looked up only to see the pale features within Chaos' hood. The scream escaped her lips, her last battle cry of hope as she electricuted the arms that held her. Both men let her fall, though as her small arms outstreached for the ground, she fell into darkness, a portal opened by the mage himself. That scream followed her, that fear, that loss, even now lingers, yet the portal reopened near Myrken Woods. The last she recalls was waking up with a nastly bump on her head near the waters shore.

Since then, her whole world has changed, and only now, has she truly begun to learn. In the back of her mind, home calls for her, or what was left of it. Yet she has never forgotton the Story of Gretchen, for now it has been pulled into the tales of Myrken Wood.
The only thing a dreamer has, is hope within reality.
