Peace sells, but who's buying..?

Tue Apr 15, 2003 3:21 am

The previous night had been an interesting one. Attacked by Ariane and Quincy was something he did not expect, though he was able to handle himself with only minor wounds...

Even more interesting, he was able to save Varian's life, though the prince would probably be too hard-pressed to admit to that. But it was all going to plan.

Inadvertently, Damien had started all of this when he knocked over the pike with the body, outside his lair, and though it unnaturally fell to the ground, it was all Lucian needed. Already the carion crows were picking at the gypsy's flesh, and worms were crawling from his decomposing nose and mouth, a grotesque sight for sure.

But this had caused his plan to come to fruition, for only a couple evenings later, he spread forth his havoc. Earlier, he told Tyralor that he lived by no law, save for his own, and the half-elf had witnessed what he meant. Trial by fire and blade was all Lucian knew, all that the once-mage judged all others by. Ariane and Quincy were just the appetizers, for after dispatching them both, he attacked both Rielle and Vaelian. The new guard captain Kanashia was able to throw his blade into Lucian's shoulder, but all it did was save the Tremere's throat from Vaelian's blade.

And then he struck, and caused Vaelian to flee with Rielle. Had not others came to help Kanashia, Lucian perhaps would have taken him back to his domain and tortured him, but he was saved. No matter, for now he had to deal with Varian, his former ally. The chaos and havoc that they caused reminded the Warlock of old times, when Varian was Lucian's mentor. Those days may have been long-past, but it reminded him of the thrill of combat.

Gone were the days when he and Varian were able to oust a number of combatants who would try and gang up on them, only to run away in fear as the vampires held their own. This was what was needed, for the townsfolk seemed to gain some courage, and openly hunt these creatures of the night.

For all their talk of peace, who shed more blood? The immortals, who would gladly keep the peace in exchange for blood, or the mortals who, blinded by rage, attacked any they thought was undead? The coming army also didn't help the peace process....

But war is inevitable, when two sides hunt one another... again, Peace sells .... but who's buying?
