They say there is little a person can't do if the human will is strong. Is his human will strong enough? Is he himself, strong enough?
To pass the trials of time, the trials of life, the trials of a bitter world.
He can remember golden eyes staring out beneath the brows of thick, grey fur. They were sharp, cunning, and little could escape their fine perception. Prey - no, a predator - came walking into the view of those eyes. And quick, powerful legs sprung forward to attack it first.
He can remember those golden eyes, staring out under the brow of fine hair. They were watching a woman dressed in simple peasants clothing tending to a young girl, probably her daughter. Those eyes, clever and knowing, understood the dilemma of the woman. She looked so poor, her child so full of tears. One must be free of misery, and thus lean legs push forward to save the two from their own futures.
He can remember the same golden eye, staring out beneath the mange of fur and looking down a blunt maw to the person those sharp teeth were pointed to. Pale skin, teeth just as long -- a vampire. Strong, unforgiving hands pummeled into the skull of the dead creature, to save mankind from this plague.
He can remember it as plain as day. He knew of all these memories, but not always knew why they occured. He would wake up one morning and know that they occured -- know that in his dreams, he was staring through golden eyes. Was he crazy? Was his dreams evidence of a life that goes on when he sleeps?
He can remember waking up next to a corpse of a hunter. He can remember waking up next to the still bodies of a mother and her child. He can remember waking up to the sight of a dead vampire pinned beneath his human frame.
He can remember it all.
