Rhaena's Return

Her departure had been a quiet affair, not long after the Unfortunate Incident of Catch and the Birthday Party. Indeed, if one had not been paying attention, they might have missed entirely the fact that Rhaena Olwak had been gone for upwards of a month. On the other hand, one would have to be blind indeed to miss her return. The carriage and guards mounted on matched horses made a fine show, parading through the streets of Myrken, tossing sweets and small toys to children, before coming to a stop outside of the house that Glenn Burnie and Rhaena Olwak shared. Several of the guards dismounted, a few beginning to unload luggage while one offered a hand to Rhaena as she emerged from the carriage. The woman was dressed in a fine emerald gown in the Razasan style, a feathered hat perched atop bronze tresses that had been artfully braided. The veil that descended from the brim of the hat was much thinner than what she usually wore, doing little to hide the green and bronze scales that edged her jaw and brow. In her hands, one gloved in lace, the other strange, seemingly metallic, she held a cooing dove.
"Not that one!" Rhaena said with a pretty smile, looking up from the dove as one of her guards began pulling out a trunk. "That one goes to the school. The others, though, you may bring in." In a swirl of lace and silk, trailed by a train of luggage and cooing softly to her dove, Rhaena entered the house.
The birthday party for Catch had either been a catastrophic failure or an extraordinary success, depending on how one viewed such things. Whatever one's thoughts happened to be, what was undeniable was that immense power had been unleashed. The changes in Glenn Burnie were subtle, but there for those with eyes to see them. Nor could Rhaena herself have escaped unscathed, that was certain.
