A Massive Missve for Master Burnie

Aleksei had not seen Glenn in.. well. A while. The passage of time was not something he was very good at keeping up with anymore. So much had changed, and he felt he needed to update the man on what was occurring, in case he wasn't getting it else where. Plus, frankly, he felt his objective assessment of events would prove to be helpful.

He stand at the desk he had in his new dwelling, a nice wooden thing with several drawers. From one of the drawers he produced a stone writing implement, and a bottle of ink. The whole thing was enchanted, and fortunately Glenn had shaken his hand, allowing him to attune to him. He tapped the stone on the desk, and hummed very softly, creating a vibration in the stone. The letters it wrote would appear random now, but Glenn would be able to read the characters even if they appeared to be gibberish to anyone else. A very handed enchantment, that.

"Glenn -

I hope this letter finds you well. I wanted to update you on several goings on here, in case you somehow missed it. But I rather doubt you have, you have eyes everywhere, even if they are not visible.

Firstly; Zilliah has come through with part of the money he had promised, and I am starting to gather materials to create my tube. Eleanor and I have secure storage here that you have so generously provided me. I won't elaborate in writing, but it is safe, and will be large enough for my needs.

Most importantly, and perhaps most frighteningly, someone has hired an assassin to kill Catch. Catch refers to him in two forms, The Faceless, and an Eyeless Egg. Renea, whom I finally met, said he wears a featureless white mask to hide. He attacked the both of them at the lake. A fast attack, using a pair of metallic threads he manipulated somehow. I assume they are either choke lines, or magical somehow. He also created a large ball of fire to escape.

One of the serving staff at the Dagger told me of a second attack just last night. Same methods, appeared out of no where and attacked with threads. This there was someone named Kacela there, whom the assassin tried to glue to the floor with a magical attack, and use sharp shards of ice to cover his escape.

I will attempt to discover more about this, and the other things we have been working on."

The letter was sealed with wax, though he did not affix any type of seal to it, it was doubtful that Glenn would recognize anything he used as a signet anyway. He sent the letter to his office by courier, with instructions to only deliver it to his or Guisppie's hand.

One thing to be said for the Governor? His paper stock had gotten nicer.

Aleksei would receive the letter a day or two later. No cipher was needed. Myrken rarely had such resources. At the same time, Burnie had access to the most trustworthy urchins that the town had to offer. That had to count for something.

"Aleksei,

My thanks for your detailed letter and your continuing hard work. It had not been my original intention to toss you so deeply into the woods, so to say, but circumstance has overtaken me and your own natural curiosity and initiative has overtaken you. Now we make the best of it. I dare say you shant be bored anytime soon.

As for your concerns:

I do hope that the fae's gold will provide us with both leverage and truth. We shall talk further about your desire to be the man to make the expedition. I would prefer not to risk you.

A magic-wielding 'assassin' is troubling, especially coupled with the other recent violence in Town. I wonder, however, why you feel someone hired this person to kill Catch. Has he stated as such? Could he simply not be someone Catch had inadvertently wronged or someone seeking his blood or power? Such a premeditated and costly attack on Catch seems somehow unlikely from his time in Myrken alone. My suggestion would be to liaise with local traders recently come in from afar and any of the traveling gypsy troupe if they are still present. See if anyone has heard of him or his methods from their time in neighboring provinces. IF someone did hire him, it may be due to some offense Catch had incurred before arriving in Myrken. In this matter, I do think motive important. For now, I'll see about hiring some mercenaries to help guard the home in which he resides.

As an aside, Kacela is a werewolf (yes, I know). She claims to be some sort of nature guardian protecting humanity but she's been fairly ineffectual in that role. We've had a few run ins. I do think she means well, but is more beast than human and that affects her ability to accomplish things. She's recently fallen in with Kals Olwak, who is moody, powerful, and has all of the petty trappings of an immature, jealous brother when it comes to me. Neither should do you any harm, but I wouldn't expect either to be very helpful.

While Myrken is dangerous with activity currently and your attention could be spread far and wide, I would prefer you to focus first and foremost upon the mystery of Catch. That said, follow your instincts on other matters and keep me informed. Most of all, try to stay safe.

In a few days' time, a seal might have been placed on the letter, something ornate to signify the office Glenn Burnie now held. Given how quickly everything had moved, however, such a thing was not yet prepared and the seal was simple and quite dull. It went along well with his informal signature.

He reads the letter, and actually manages to look more concerned than when he assumed that the person in question was only out to kill Catch. He moved back over to the desk to pen a reply, scribbled down in haste. If Glenn didn't feel the need for a cipher, he would not waste the effort on the enchantment. It seemed silly to bother.

'Glenn,

Perhaps you are right, maybe he isn't out to kill Catch. But the person is clearly targetting Catch, and that is more frightening. You know more than I what he is capable of when he snaps, what would happen if he were pressured into a massive amount of violence?"

He didn't even bother signing the letter, sending it back with the very same urchin, along with a few coins for waiting around.
