A Small Conversation of No Particular Importance

Smoke always allowed Tempest to pet her. The reason why was because the wild woman's skin was always warm to the touch, to the point of what a hot springs would likely feel like. Smoke had never been in any hot springs before, and neither had Sefall. It was something they'd have to do, someday.

Scratching, patting, rolling her palms over the wolf's thick and gray pelt, Tempest chewed on the ever-present stem of wheat that was at her mouth, watching Smoke's leg's twitch in content with yellow eyes as she passed on every drip of information she could remember from the escalating event at the Broken Dagger, when she had confronted Ariane while drunk, and, among other things, held a broken bottle a little close to her, and threatened her life. That damned silver-haired constable was a moron, honestly - the callowness of youth, she reckoned, although she reprimanded herself afterwards, as she shouldn't have judged his experience (or age) just by his looks alone. She had annoyed her, definitely - but, what didn't annoy her?

Tempest kept thinking, while speaking to him - although a lot of people would have expressed wonder that she could multi-task like that. And then, he constantly had that tart with the silvered glasses constantly hovering at his shoulder, looking grim and gritting her teeth and all that. The stem of wheat started going vertical as she jutted out her jaw in annoyance. Prim and proper, she looked. If Sefall hadn't told her to restrain herself, she would have loved to start some shit with her, so see what her reaction would be - although she didn't doubt that, if she did, she would be the only one that got jail time.

Ah, but that rainbow-haired fairy - that had been the highlight of the day. Cocky son of a bitch. 'Not very effective, is it?' - she remembered those words, as she'd kneed his crotch. What, like she wasn't *expecting* armor, with all that jingling when he moved? Tempest's eyes narrowed and her fingers tightened, relaxing only when Smoke let out a grunt of protest. Well. Whatever. She'd torched everything off of him, and it was sincere laughter when she saw his white ass going up the stairs for new clothes. Cocky son of a bitch. *Pale* son of a bitch - especially compared to Tempest's dusky skin. Although, she did think there would be trouble, next time, if he tried to get money out of her. This was partly because Tempest usually didn't carry money on her, and also because she wouldn't give it up if she did.

And then Ariane, with that tattooed freak show of a woman that had shown up behind her at the very end - she had been having some mood swings, that day. And upon exiting the tavern, she'd *heard* the sound of breaking crockery, and curses in whatever gibberish the woman spoke. At least, at that, Tempest allowed herself some small measure of satisfaction. She'd gotten under her skin.

Sad, though - Ariane was probably thinking that Tempest really did want to kill her.

She had finished her story, then, and Sefall was lying back against a tree, with his arms crossed behind his head, watching the ground with an almost bored look. She wrinkled her nose slightly. How could he stand it if any ants got on his arms? She hated ants. Tiny, tickling, annoying, lots of them. She usually burnt them, if she saw them.

"So?" Tempest muttered, still petting Smoke, tending to her ears. The wolf let out of a sound that could probably pass for content.

"What?" Sefall raised his eyes, and an eyebrow.

"So, you told me to say all that shit to her. Death-threaten her, and all that." Tempest snorted, and one didn't have to imagine a bit of steam from the nostrils, as it actually came forth. "Now she thinks I want to kill her. The useless constable is pissed with me. The rainbow fairy is probably going to try and kill me. The tart with the glasses is pissed with me because she was trying to warm up the Constable the entire time. And the tall freak with the tattoos is probably pissed, too. Her face was like stone, but her words were a little giving."

She paused, and then: "So, what do you want me to do now?"

Sefall leaned his head back, closing watery-colored eyes, and flexing his shoulders once to get the kinks out, relaxing again immediately thereafter.

"Obviously, I want you to follow through."

Tempest's eyes widened slightly, orange eyebrows going up, and the petting of fur stopping immediately. "...what?"

The man in gray-and-black opened his eyes. "I want you to kill Ariane."

Her Captain never failed to surprise her.
