Great cheers met the next food shipment's safe if mildly delayed arrival. As the merchandise made its way to the townsfolk, many of the grocers and butchers who had protested found themselves with no good reason to not sell save simple stubbornness that would burn away any remaining hope for profit. Greed was now beneficial for it motivated people to lower prices, buy and sell as they had before the entire mess started.
The few who out of spite refused found themselves losing profits quickly and, if they did not change their ways, would find themselves destitute as well. The sickly sweet stench of decaying foodstuffs served as the incense for the funeral of their pride.
Some yet whispered of the cult's hand even buried amidst the simple food trade. Others claimed that foul undead had whisked away the supplies out of sheer spite for the living. And yet many claimed the fairies were up to their age-old pranks yet again and there was nothing to be done but to endure.
Enduring was far easier, however, on a full belly.
