An Invitation

The note was a simple affair, for all it was written on the finest parchment, each letter inked perfectly, with the occasional flourish.

To Chairwoman Agnieszka Kaczmarek, Greetings

Would you care to join me for a morning ride tomorrow? I have missed your company and I find my horse is in dire need of exercise.

That was all. Nothing of their conversation the previous evening, save only Rhaena's making good on her promise to make more time for Agnieszka.

This clinches it, really -- the old Rhaena would never have been this formal. Either something is very wrong, or Agnieszka's done something awful to make her angry enough that she'd use her title in place of her name. She liked her title, and she liked when people used it, but coming out of Rhaena's mouth?

She ponders this for a while, and then pens her reply. The handwriting is awful, crude, and rudimentary; the parchment is of normal quality.

Hi Rhaena!!

I wuld love to come riding with you but see I stil have craked ribs from the last fite so I must avoid horsus for the next few weeks at leest. But if you want tea lets meet at the Dagger.

Sometimes formality is to be appreciated. Even when she'd first come to Myrken, Rhaena had been well trained in such things. However, the lack of parental (and sometimes brotherly) supervision for the first time had led her to abandon much of what she'd been taught. It was Fun and New and Exciting. Now, though, she found a certain comfort in these things that she had earlier discarded. Perhaps something was wrong with her. Or perhaps she wished to give her brother no further excuse for criticism. Or perhaps she just liked it.

Her reply came immediately, finely lettered again in stark contrast to Agnieszka's own writing:
