Respects

Tue Aug 21, 2007 5:57 am

Teddi rose early on the morning two days after her rescue, after the terrible battle of Snowstill. She dressed in her sunday's best and covered her pale-haired head with a solemn, dark bonnet; she brushed off her nerves and set out from Deost's estate with an escort, after making several inquiries, and travelled through the town to the homes of those families that had lost a loved one during the battle.

She went knocking on their doors with bright flowers for gifts, giving praise and thanks to honour their memories; she gave her soft, sincere condolences with hugs where they were wanted, with a head bowed in politeness where they were not. Her visits were not uncomfortably long, but there were so many homes to visit.

It was a long, grim morning, and at the end of it, the thin, limping barmaid had to lean on her escort -- begging they take her back to her workplace instead of Deost's home, back to stay at the Broken Dagger, at last.
