On the outskirts of the township, there is bee's-nest activity. A modest bit of land, once a stableyard where passing travellers could board a horse (if they weren't staying at the Dagger) - but it was long ago that it had burned down, twisted, charred wood still lying about for any to cart off for a warm fire.
Even in the rain, workers descended on the site with vigor; the sound of axes and splintering wood filling the area. Fresh supplies were brought, to be left under overhangs until the rain abated, to lay new foundations. Rumors flew, even as it is barely a building; some said it was to be a brothel, others said it would be a new stableyard. But as more and more came to gawk, and as tongues amoung the workers began to loosen, new whispers travelled abroad.
That the General had decided to stay, for good.

There's no fanfare - for months people have watched and whispered as the house - mansion, even - slowly took shape, funded by the same deep and foriegn pockets as those aiding the town in time of drought and food shortage. And now it seems all but finished, the masons and carpenters packing their bags as various other packages arrive to furnish the place. The General's black stallion is stationed in the new stables, in a better humor than he ever was in at the Dagger's stables - whose walls will no doubt will bear his hoofprints for many a year.
And so, completed, the General's new quarters drew quite a stir.
