Help Wanted, Part II

Thu Jun 02, 2005 4:15 pm

It was a shame that Captain Almais Lansing had to cut back the rotation now, as stocks were rotting and water supplies were turning brackish. There was nothing she could do, though.. the heat only worsened, and so her crew would need more rest. Only two trips could be managed daily, now, and so the schedule was changed; one so that water would be dropped at first light, and one immediately after, to take advantage of the coolest part of the day.

There was a possibility, however, that she might be able to do something about it. So, near to noon after the first day of the shorter schedule, Captain Lansing strode into the town square, bearing a rolled up document under one arm. She approached the posting wall, found an empty spot, and tacked up her notice, written in elegant script.

Citizens of Myrken, and anyone else that may be in the area:

You may have seen our fair ship sailing overhead in these past weeks.

That is, if you haven't been living under a rock. (That sentence, of course, is not included in the missive.)

We, the crew of the airship Legacy, have been doing our best to provide you with water in these trying times. Unfortunately, we are bound by the same limitations of the flesh as any. We are unable to continue at the previous pace, because the worsening heat is simply too much.

However, the news that water supplies and stocks have begun to spoil has spurred me to offer you a chance to try to save yourselves. I would be willing to accept volunteers to add to the crew, on a provisional basis, and devise a crew rotation, so that we may deliver as much water as possible.

There will be no pay for this work. We are not asking for money from you to do this, and so none can be given. However, the more of you show interest, the more water will be given to Myrken's people and crops. Access to water while working will not be an issue, given that it will be our cargo.

I will consider and evaluate all volunteers, and some instruction will be provided, however, I will not lie to you: You could not expect to learn all there is to know about sailing within even a year, under normal circumstances, and of course, these are hardly normal circumstances. Also, those of you that are unskilled would most likely be placed as rowers. Rowing is hard work, but just as valuable as the rest; the more rowers, the more of my skilled crew is freed up to perform complex tasks, and again, the more water Myrken receives.

You must be able to accept authority. If you are unskilled, stamina is important. If you plan to volunteer to work on deck, tolerance of heat, dexterity, and climbing ability are also important, as is, at a minimum, skill with rope and knots.

You may volunteer for any length of time you like, however, for obvious reasons, consistency is appreciated.

Finally, if you are subject to nausea due to motion, or fear of high places, you should not volunteer.

The AS Legacy will be moored near to the Broken Dagger Inn from midday until early morning, every day, until our numbers are sufficiently swelled to add more journeys to our schedule. You may approach during that time. Ask to speak with me.

Signed,

Captain Almais Lansing
AS Legacy

OOC: This is your invitation to join the crew, on whatever basis you like. It's currently more of a device for character advancement than excitement or actual RP, given that the ship is still involved in its humanitarian mission. You are welcome to simply say that your character has volunteered and is helping, provided that your character would do good work, however I am also perfectly willing to play out scenes for volunteers, either on IRC or on the boards.

Also, there's the chance that if there ever *is* any excitement for the ship, your character could be involved.

If you would like more information, please do contact me via IRC, IM, or private message.

From the Sea to the Sky

Being on land made Amir restless yet he had little choice he had not the funds to purchase a ship and buliding one would take time as well as funds, so few were willing to hire a man who looked more like a pirate then a reputable captain. That was how he found himself at the posting wall reading the parchment left by the air ship captain.

Fingers lifted scrubbed through the tidy black gotee on his chin a smile curving his lips it would be a way to fill the time to feel the movement of a ship beneath his feet again nevermind that he would be under the command of another. Turning away now his steps almost had a bounce to them despite the heat sea shanty whistling from between his lips maybe things were looking up for neptunes chewtoy afterall.
