Meet the area's newest ambulance-chaser...

Mon Oct 18, 2004 8:04 am

Someone has finally rented the empty rooms above the largest bakery in Myrkentown. Candles burn well into the night, and a skinny, nattily-dressed, well-groomed young man has been seen scurrying about the area industriously, crisply directing teams of laborers lugging up boxes of books, teakwood shelving, a large, ornate oaken desk, and Oriental rugs.

Just yesterday, the young man -- who seems always to have spit-shined boots and not a bit of dirt on his foppish scarlet-and-black tailcoat -- hung a burnished brass sign by the door. It reads:

Mr. Coriolanus Helstone, Esq., barrister.

The young attorney himself -- who calls himself Cory and is a bit of a dandy, although friendly enough -- has been seen in the Broken Dagger quite a bit, talking to the locals. Being nice. Buying them drinks. Offering his services. Looking for clients. Seems like a decent guy, to most; a graduate of one of Thessilane's most prestigious law schools, the way he dresses makes it clear that he has quite a bit of money -- and the way he speaks, well, that's a city way of talking. It's an accent held by someone who's spent their entire life citybound.

So what is Helstone doing in a comparatively backwater village like Myrkentown?
