Dearest Altias Bromn...

Dearest Altias Bromn...

I write on a matter that was best fit for a public meeting; and I had very well planned on waiting for as much, but fate seems to have deemed my planning some too slow.

As you must have heard by now, the Rememdium Edificium suffered a destructive attack, leveling a good half the building. My assistant was wounded in the blast, and to whom we might blame this unprovoked display of inhumanity is still indiscernable, although I'm sure Aeri -- the one wounded in the assault -- will have some ideas.

But that is a matter for the Order of Straka, who I hope will soon be looking into the matter.

I have written you, simply, to ask for a grant. I've spent all my funds to building the Edificium in the first place, not altogether too long ago. We need money to rebuild and repair the damage. Furthermore, and this is where I had planned on a public meeting, I was hoping to procure funds, perhaps, to expand the building. I've seen the need for the installment of a kitchen, and certainly more patient rooms.

This, unfortunately, due to the properties around the Edificium, will require a second story or a basement -- while I had thought the latter a fair difficult considering the building above would have to be removed and replaced all over again, but half of that seems to be already done for us.

I thank you for your time in reading and considering this.

Sincerely,
Doctor David D'Rael

Dear Doctor D'Rael,

I am sorry to hear of your recent misfortune. I am certain that the council will back a grant of some sort for the rebuilding of the Rememdium Edificium. However, these things must go through the proper channels. This will have to be taken before the council and a vote taken. I can forsee no problems with the idea, but protocols must be followed.

I will see to it that another meeting is called as soon as can be arranged. It would not benefit yourself or the people of Myrken to have the Rememdium Edificium operating below maximum for too long.

Please be as patient as you can be, while I try and arrange for the meeting. As I am sure you are aware, it can at times be difficult to get all the councilors together in a timely fashion. I will send you a notice to the meeting once dates have been set.

With concern,

Altias Bromn called for Luke in the middle of the night. Another nightmare had taken him, leaving him shaken and breathless. While the governor did not go into detail with the page, he did instruct the boy to ready a horse. He would ride to deliver a package to Doctor D'Rael. Yes at this hour!

Altias climbed from his bed. HIs normally vibrantly red hair was soaked trhough with sweat. The darkness beneath his eyes was vivid, as if he had recently been struck with something very hard. His ribs showed through his skin, not enough to notice, but much more than they used to. Lack of rest had robbed him of his appetite.

Certain that Luke had gone to fetch and saddle the horse, Altias dug beneath his bed. Reaching, searching. At last his fingers found purchase on the canvas bag. Pulling it free from its hiding place, Altias sat down on the floor and smiled, just a little. Darik had said it was for an emergency. A rainy day. Well...not having a hospital was definitely an emergency waiting to happen. And it certainly had been many rainy days in a row. As difficult as it was to get the council together...it was time.

When Luke returned, Altias placed the large bag in his hands. It was very heavy and rattled a bit. The sound of metal on metal clinking away inside. A questioning look from the boy, as Altias shook his head. He would not discuss it.

"Take this to Dr. D'Rael. Take Matthew and Aaron with you. I wish a letter from the doctor confirming his acceptance of the package. Is that understood?"

"Yes, Sir. Of course, Sir!"

The blond boy nodded vigorously and ran from the room, heavy bag in hand.

"Ride hard, I want that letter by morning!"

Altias turned from the doorway, collapsing back onto the bed, and almost immediately...back into the nightmares.

Doctor David D'Rael hadn't left the Edificium in over a day, or more; generally, he had made little visits around, from time to time, to gather things in one respect or another, or just to clear his mind -- little fifteen minute excursions from the Rememdium Edificium. But now, he did not. The doc was soloing now, much to his own fault, and he wouldn't be the one to complain. Dr. D'Rael started his practice here in Myrkentown by himself, and there was never any trouble. Granted, just because trouble occurred after he began hiring, it did not mean trouble occurred because he started hiring. He would not blame those that worked with him in that wrecked building; the period at hand was simply a regrouping, a tying of loose ends.

Suffice to say, the doc wasn't surprised when the horses came. Nor was he when they stopped outside of the Edificium, but David was quite curious. Riders generally weren't injured, and he'd rarely ever received word, package or letter by such means. Normally, people just meandered in.

David quirked a brow when they came in with the bag, and furrowed his brows further when they requested an affirmation letter. Well, that was all good and fine, the doc supposed, but first he'd have to open that bag just to see what was inside...
