A Message from Brotherhood Command

Governor Bromn, feel free to distribute this information as you see fit, as the repercussions of this restructuring of Brotherhood forces will be seen readily enough in the coming weeks. We plan on having this formation change finished before the middle of this next month, that being June. If you question the reasoning behind said change of formation the answer is obvious enough.

The Township of Myrken no longer needs the Brotherhood to maintain duties as police force AND military force at the same time, with the Constabulary in place. It was, perhaps, one of the few good things that your predeccessor did correctly. This being the case, we can perform tasks that are more suited to our expertise, and that being the patrolling of the wilderness and Guiscard's Wall. If you wish to make any suggestions, I will welcome them considering your family's own brand of expertise on such matters.

Aeryn Karolinger, Marshal of the Brotherhood of Janerio

-------

The Brotherhood of Janerio will be undergoing the following formation restructuring to better provide for the defence of Myrken. In the past the size of the basic unit of our forces, that being the squad or patrol, was situationally based. Now the base unit, formally called a Squad of Foot, shall number nine soldiers and one brother-sergeant. Out of this ten, two will be trained in the use of the bow to allow each squad the ability to hit at range. Arms and armaments shall remain the same as is standard, that being the personal preference of the men in the unit.

There shall also be Squads of Horse, which shall also number a total of ten. In their case, the squad entire shall be trained in the use of bow and lance and sword, for effective use in all considerations. They shall be equipped with light armour and shall be used as a mounted scouting force or for a harassing force against enemy formations.

A Scout Squad shall be detached from the command of Scout-Sergeant Rautha, and shall also number a total of ten though all men in such squads shall be considered equal in rank and, in many instances, shall outrank the sergeant of a regular squad, but not the Captain in command of their assigned Company.

The next step will be called a Standard Company, a company consisting of ten Squads of foot, one of Scouts, one of Horse, and a special Command Squad of five. The Command Squad shall consist of the Captain assigned to the Company, his second, a man assigned to bear the Company's standard into battle, and two veteran soldiers who shall act as the Captain's bodyguard.

At present Brotherhood Forces can deploy three such of these Standard Companies, each of which shall be dispatched to each of the gates built into Giscard's Wall. There they shall erect a small fortress of wood and dirt and patrol their sections of wall and surrounding territory. This is being made possible by the pressing of men and women currently NOT in active duty into squads. This shall allow each Company to have their own share of scribes, farriers, leather workers, blacksmiths and grooms, while not loosing fighting strength overall.

Aside from these Standard Companies, there are two Special Units. These numbering the remaining Scouts under the command of Sergeant Rautha. These men and women shall remain outside of the chain of command as always, as their tasks are individual and specific to each mission. The Scouts shall, of course, report directly to Sergeant Rautha who shall report to Brotherhood Command.

The second unit shall be the main mounted force of the Brotherhood, which shall be garrisoned at Fort Sumpter, just outside of Myrkentown itself. This shall be made of the veteran members of the Brotherhood of Janerio, and at current numbers approximately fifty-seven soldiers. They shall fall under the direct leadership of the Marshal of the Brotherhood. Each shall be trained as heavy cavalry, giving the Brotherhood a plated fist in times of need. They shall be called the First Company.

For your information the current Chain of Command is such:

Marshal of the Brotherhood and Commander of the First Company: Aeryn Karolinger
Captain of the Second Company: Brother-Captain Jons Feul
Captain of the Third Company: ?
Captain of the Fourth Company: ?

The Captaincy's of the Third and Fourth Companies have yet to be assigned.
