This letter arrives with the morning post.

To: The gentleman taking the post of Acting Councilor of Administrative Sanctions, Myrken Wood Meetinghouse

Honored gentlemen of the Council:

I have been engaged by a upstanding citizen of Myrkentown to make arrangements for his upcoming nuptial celebrations to a most lovely and virtuous lady. In the past, I understand it has been the custom for Councilor Treadwell to preside at the Meetinghouse or at one of the Churches or the Town Square for a number of years.

I understand the Council is currently in some turmoil -- a subject I wish to address in another letter -- and that certain things have gone by the wayside, so to speak -- so I will go through no little trouble to ensure that I, as a registered agent of the Court and being legally engaged by my client, may witness this marriage of hearts and minds myself.

If the Council is not amenable to this action, please return this missive with a letter concerning a time and date when we may meet to discuss possibilities in this matter further.

The letter that would, eventually, come in response to Helstone's missive would be a short and tersely worded thing. But then, considering which office it came from (for it surely wasn't Administrative Sanctions) perhaps that made some sense. In any case, the soldier who would deliever the letter would not wait for any response. It would simply be dropped off, and the man would continue on his errands.

From: Kerrak al'Nerun, Councilor of Civil Security and Defence, etcetera.

Master Helstone, let me be brief. The council has little time to deal with a wedding at the moment. I would urge you to find a minister or priest or whatever you need to conduct the ceremony in question. And to find a place other than the council hall for such a celebration.

A response would come the next day, of course, from a very pleased Cory -- although that hardly shows in the businesslike letter that is returned.

Thank you for your kind and prompt attention to the matter at hand. I greatly appreciate it.

Unfortunately, as my clients are sadly not believers in the One God nor follow any church that has a ministerial presence in Myrken Wood, it does fall to the Council's responsibility to act as a mediating party. Since you are so busy, I will take your advice. Thank you very much.

Sadly, other matters on my plate are not so easily dealt with; I will shortly write the Council on a number of cases that have been in abeyance for months and will need to be resolved soon.
