A note left behind

A note left behind

Whoever would be coming into the Myrken Wood Meetinghouse any time soon might happen to see a note left on the council table and a chair missing. That note is written in the sloppy, sprawling hand of one Aloisius Treadwell, and its contents are. . . unique.

To my dear old Meetinghouse Chair:

Greetings, hail, and well-met! It certainly has been a little while since you've had to do your part in keeping me comfy and upright in an hours long meeting. I merely came by to see if you were able to still do that, and, of course, you were. There's no rust to scrape off and no wood to straighten up or replace, but I certainly will be coming in soon to replace your padding in your seat and back. In short, Chair, you, like the one you hold up, seem to have lost a little of the fluffiness about you. Shame, shame, shame. I'll have your cushions opened up and stuffed back to their right fluffy plumpness in no time.

Now, in the meanwhile, dear Chair, I'm afraid I must offer an apology! It certainly must be lonely down here with naught but the other chairs and that horrid table to keep you company, you know. Rest assured I'll talk to Altias and the rest whenever I see 'em about meeting again. You'll soon be back to doing your job, yet!

From your dear round person who likes to sit down here:

Tready

P.S. Chair, on second thought, I think I will replace your arms. Some cushioning on them would be wonderful. . . and, well, maybe a new board at the back to widen things up a bit so you're not so darned tight. . . and, well, how about some sturdier legs and a little changing about so that you're a rocking chair? You do have that uncertain, wobbly feeling about you when I sit down. Hmph. On second thought, dear Chair, you're coming to my shop with me. I'll be fixing you up in the morning. I think you'll like it!

The note is now removed, scooped up and stuffed into an office drawer by Tready himself.

His chair, though, has seen a radical series of changes in these past hours. No more is it the simple, only mostly sturdy, somewhat comfy thing of the past. Now, it is almost entirely a new chair, a different chair, a chair that anyone looking for comfort would be more than glad to occupy.

Hard wooden arms have had plump, plush, velvety cushions added to them. The seat and back of the chair have similarly been changed, the cushioned seat being stuffed anew and the back being widened and strengthened with new wood. The legs and feet have been replaced, giving the one who sits in the chair the ability to rock back and forth in peace and comfort. Tiny, ornate carvings of swirly designs now cover the sides of the arms and legs, and, on the back of it all, a scene of a typical country town buried in snow is more than visible. Rods and poles and such have been replaced to either strengthen them or to widen them to match up with the new back of the chair. Finally, the whole thing has been lowered just a touch. A coat or two of polish has been added all around, as well, giving it all that new chair look and smell.

What we have here, ladies and gentlemen, is a veritable wooden throne, a seat for any who love excessive luxury. And it's all Tready's.
