The news of Prince Taliaferro's death posed a difficulty that the Judiciary Council had not prepared for. The governor felt that, in being the brother of the murdered Commander, rapid decision making by the Council of Myrken Wood could be appreciated.

There was yet the matter of foreign policy, which Phuri could not remember in detail. What were their obligations to New Dauntless? Were there not questions still rising from the members of his staff; worries that Myrken Wood was being seen as a threat to the Thessilane with such confidence placed in a New Dauntlean as to lead their policing force? Were Thesslianians being improperly prisoned? Phuri mapped it out in his mind.

A fresh bottle of ink remained sealed. Gad's beady blue eyes, irritated by seasonal changes, were level with it.

Foreign policy. He pushed a fist into the orbit of his eye. Meaty fingers wrenched the thick skin folds until fluid oozed from its corners. He could see more clearly without the watering to screen his vision.

Before he would respond, Phuri saw to the matter of his stomach. A meal proportionate to his appetite was served from the kitchen of the Meetinghouse.

Once he'd been lulled by the presence of a satistfied tum, Phuri's resort went to the inkpot. The missives were prepared, accordingly:

Your letter concerning the death of Prince Joryll is received. Please accept sympathies toward your family on behalf of the Myrken Wood Council. We ask for your cooperation during this time of grief as an emergency meeting of the Councilors will be made to consider a swift, just action for the accused.

We will request your presence for this meeting. As brother of the deceased and new Prince there should be careful execution of the punishments designed for Quincy Randall, to benefit Myrken Wood, New Dauntless and the surviving Taliaferro family.

Congratulations on your installment to New Dauntless. Myrken Wood will miss you.
