Letters for the councilors.

The four councilors - Giscard Guillame, Tetsi Avarante, Altias Bromne and Joseph O`Cynen - each receive a written letter with the same message.

"Dear councilor (insert name of councilor),

I have spoken to the Governer about these issues, but before a final decision is made, I also wanted to inform you of my positions on the matters within the city.

As you know I've made myself known to be working for and with the city and their guards for the position of Captain of the Guard. I have spoken of my 'history' in the military with Honorable Gad Phuri, and I'll do the same for you.

I was an officer in the Thessilane army, a division that was regretably not under Duke Burel, and spent four years in their proud service. As is well known they are a fine group of men, and I'm honored to say I have worked with them. My experience in combat does not end there - as I served as a noble's bodyguard for well over eight years, and in that time I spent training in the arts of sorcery.

This is not all I have to say, as now the intent of my letter focuses to the well being of Myrken. Thursday evening in the tavern, a strange creature - which I have identified as a female elf - attacked the tavern and killed two guards. These were fine men, and I have even approached the 'elf' a second time, to only be forced to rethink my ways when she introduced a four-armed monster who she claimed to be 'Butcher'.

I hope that this ... woman, can come under arrest, either by my hand or that of the Orders.

The final issue is of Alexi Rose's orphanage. I am willing to finance the construction of the facility so that the city itself could concentrate on the more pressing matters facing the city. I am a wealthy man, and for the sake of our good city - I am not unwilling to give all that I can to help. This is also why I am willing to pay a percentage of the yearly costs for the Guard.

Joseph held the letter in his hand, reading over it once more. In the other hand was yet another letter, asking for a meeting on the same subject. He sighed; the farmer wasn't sure what to make of Alexander - the experience sounded all good and dandy, but Joseph was no credible judge as to what was 'experienced' and what wasn't. He was far from a fighter - and without any knowledge on the options other than one, he felt it was foolish to even try to make a decision. At least, though, this choice could actually have options: there were two more candidates, if he remembered correctly.

Joseph was getting tired of some of the things the council had to decide on. Letting armies through Myrken Wood...what was there to discuss? If a hideous army of hellish beasts is heading for Myrken, then damned well let the armies through. The orphanage? Well, if good Kanashia was willing to pay for it, what more was there to think about? Of course it would pass. Why not? It presented essentially no drawbacks and quite a few benefits. So was the discussion really necessary?

The letters were set aside, allowing the free hands to massage the man's temples. Well, he did agree to take the position. He was hoping that...well, it wasn't as if this was all there was. In these dark times, at least there was one honorable person on the council. Perhaps that was too harsh a thing to say; but certainly, some important values were missing in the men that made the decisions.

The sun peeked through the window, snuffing the candlelight with its own far more brilliant rays. Well, it was a new day; there was work to be done. This...well, this could all be worried about later.
