Temuria - Urgency

Postby Kobra » Sun Mar 30, 2003 1:40 pm

It seemed to him an odd custom, but when in Myrken Wood...

Vinter Danesti sat behind a small desk, lips pursed and quill in hand. What to say? How to express in finite words the horror he must tell these men of? Without knowing, indeed, what kind of men they were, his task would be all the more difficult.

Danesti was not a man of words, by the standards of more civilised lands. Few Temurians were. By action had they carved their path and birthed their kingdom; by thought translated to action they made their daily lives. Words they reserved for those who earned them; friends, lovers, companions, though in Temuria the custom of kinu-jem, the Silence of Knowing, was widespread; comfort sought in quiet presence. Yet among such men, Vinter was a learned individual, for he was not Temurian by birth - few of the adult generation, in fact, were - and was widely-travelled.

That was not to say the red-haired man with the angry scar and fearsome scowl was not a warrior. He was, in fact, the Prince's right-hand man, both a tactician and bodyguard. As if Altan Temur needed one. Brothers-in-arms, the Prince would say, if he were asked. Altan was the only man alive who knew Vinter Danesti's secrets; he would take them to the grave if it came to it.

It was for the sake of his friend, his brother, then, that Vinter now sought the power of words instead of swords. The enemy were coming. In great numbers they would pass through Myrken Wood, ravage the district and move on, toward what was surely their true goal - Temuria. They would need a gigantic host of fighting men indeed to repel them. Temuria's forces, however, had been so badly depleted in the last war - the struggle against the necromancer of Taros - that now only four or five thousand able-bodied men remained in the Capital. And if the capital were emptied of its warriors to fight on distant fronts, it would be left vulnerable to the ever-watchful Tarosian threat...

Vinter's hand paused in its scribble.

They could call upon Amun Khan, as they had before.

A shudder passed through the broad-shouldered man. No. He would never want it. Nor would the Prince. Some things should be left in their grave.

His hand smudged the signiature; Vinter swore quietly, but the hour was too late to begin again. Folding the parchment neatly, he rose and strode to the door, where his messenger was finishing his meal of bread and cheese.

"Take this to the Meetinghouse and pin it to the door in answer to the post. We -must- get through to them."

The messenger nodded through a mouthful, swallowed painfully - then spoke - "Immediately, sir."

With reverence the man took the letter, and with great speed he was off riding to the Meetinghouse, to place it as requested.

Vinter pursed his lips again, and knitted his thick red brows into a trademark scowl. He hoped this was the right course of action.

To whom it may concern,

I, Vinter Danesti, ambassador to Myrken Wood and surrounds, request audience on behalf of the people of Temuria, to address an immediate threat not only to our own lands but to yours.

It has come to our attention, via an incident costing the lives of many of our kinsmen and nearly claiming that of our Prince, that a large hostile force is moving south from an undisclosed location north of Myrken Wood. The aggressor is of unknown number and extreme ferocity, capable and willing to commit acts of inhuman atrocity against noncombatant villagers, as was witnessed by the Prince and his accompaniment.

The people of Temuria will present to the Council evidence of this evil, and discuss means of thwarting the danger before it is too late.

We hope to come to an expedient and resolute agreement.

Yours,

Vinter Danesti.

Although the Governor had already been sent a letter informing him of Rayin's intentions, he thought it prudent to also include a reminder, in reference to the council meeting. A short letter was sent.

Concerning the matter of the public council metting on Tuesday, April the first:

The Order of Straka would like to present the issue of the approval of a new captain for their organization, due to the new status of Captain Rayin Taliaferro.

Thank you.

This was tacked, neatly, below the Council's message, and a second copy was submitted to the Governor.
Did you ever wonder what happens when there's dirt on the "Bat Signal?" It wouldn't even look like a bat anymore. Maybe they'd accidentally summon a superhero named "Misshapen Blob Man." I bet he weighs 900 lbs. and comes in the "Misshapen Blobmobile." And the cops go, "Aaah! Clean the lens!" And his theme could be the Batman song at about 10 R.P.M.

The seal held that of Rose Justice, two swords intelaced with a thorny rose and was slipped beneath the door of the courthouse after business hours. It was a petition that read:

In the many months since I have returned from my ventures out at Sea, I have begun to notice a great deal of children roaming the streets and taverns of my beloved town Myrken. It has become a great passion of mine to begin construction on a orphanage and home for these way ward children. With out it I deeply feel that in due time these very children shall grow to be the criminal element, if left to their own devices. I now submit a petition started by my own hand. In a noble cause and pursuit to provide a safe haven and proper element of edcuation for the less fortunate.

I wish that this was all the I had to write of, but I must bring to the attention of the council a great number of criminal activities. The which I believe to be the gravest of murder and grusume intent to kill that I have ever been witness too. I feel it would be a great injustice to the Noble society and to the rest of society for this matters to be over looked.

Most recently my carriage had been defiled with the bodies of two small children. Whom a small boy openly admitted to slaughtering and then proceeded to make my carriage as his receptical for those bodies. I have witness enough of his torments, and here by request if not fully demand of his detainment. - This child is a great danger to the public and himself. I feel something must be done. I shall give open testimony to all the facts in person.

By my own hand an in the power of God I write

Signed

Alexi Rose - Lady of the House of Rose Justice and noble citizen of the town of Mryken.

To the fair council.

And of course, an endeavor like building an orphanage would take time and money. Something that Alexander Kanashia, whom was writing a letter to the council at the very moment, had in abundance.

"Dear Council of Myrken,

I come to you in a humble request. I have seen that Myrken lacks a fit Captain to their guard, and as a longtime support of the Order of Straka, I'm bothered by the events unfolding. New Dauntless has their own men moving across the borders and the good city of Myrken is directly in their path. This is a problem that would be less of a worry if there was someone at the head of the our fine men.

To increase our worries, murders and disappearances are running rampant. I blame this partly on the lack of someone to reign in the criminals. I do not claim for myself being the prime savior of the Order, but I do hope for an acceptance to my proposition.

I wish to become the Captain of the Guard. I have frequented Myrken Wood countless of times over, and I even have large estate here that I plan to make a full-time home. As a citizen I am worried for my own safety and that of my neighbors - as a capable citizen, I hope that I could rise up to take part and help when in times of need.

This is a time of need.

I have the wealth to put into this endeavor - do not think this is for personal gain. I plan to help aid in a quarter of the needed finances required to support our Guard. That is money the council does not have to pay.

I have even heard, that there is the need of an orphanage. I have sat down with an assistant of mine and discussed this. I would like to invest in this, for I feel it would do wonders in helping Myrken Wood and its children.

All of this is open to discussion, and I pride myself on being an easy man to find. I wish you the best of luck, Council."

Signed, - Alexander Kanashia.
I refuse to believe this is as good as it gets.
